Boost modem speed. Any ideas?

I used to have AOL, now i have mediaone cabel.Although i had 56k modem, the maximum i got was 5kb/s, now i have 1.5mb/s modem and i'm running 10kb/s.Any ideas how to boost it? I got two TV's and one modem connected to same wire. Could the sinal be that weak, so im getting 10Kb only?

Your cable modem shares its access with every one in the local loop, which is another down side to cable modems. You should also check out:
