Question: Can you split a Cat 5 cable so that you run 2 data connections to different networks. Example: Ethernet and Token Ring networks. 2 Nic's in Workstation and you split the cat 5 cable and pin it out for Ethernet w/RJ45 connector (2 pairs) and then you pin out the other RJ45 connector for Token Ring (2 pairs). What, if any problems will be associated with doing this????
Thanks!!!

Yes this can be done, and we Do...
Each network only uses 2 pair and you can make adapters (one for each end.
Ethernet uses 1,2,3,6
and token ring uses 3,4,5,6
We had these custom made for us, and then we found that Siemons sells them cheaper than we could make them.
I can't seem to find the correct part number for the Ethernet/Token ring ones. (we have no token ring anymore), However the part number for the Ethernet/Ethernet ones is YT4-E2-E2.
It works fine, However if we had problems we would have to remove them, just long enough to figure out the problem.

Thanks!!! That's it!
One other thing... is there any signal degregation while using both Ethernet and Token Ring on the same "cable"??
Thanks again!

I'm sorry I do not know exactly.
We only used them for TokenRing/Phone and
then we switched to Ethernet/Phone.
I have never used Eth/TR Combination.
They say they are only rated for 10mb, however we are still using them for 100mb.
