Just bought a linksys 4 port router, and it will not see the modem. I have pinged the router and the other comp and both see each other but not the internet. Please help before this router meets the window when i throw it out it.

Could well be that your modem is "conditioned" to the MAC address of the NIC that was attached to it.

First: Unplug the modem (many models don't have an actual off switch, just a standby) for a few minutes and try again.

If that doesn't help you can also try using winipcfg (or equal utility) to get the adapter address. Then look at the router setup screens. You should find an option to "clone" the MAC address so that the router has the same hardware address that the PC did.

If neither one gets it done, post back.
