I have an AMD K6-2 333 on a biostar M5ala mobo. I have been sucessful at O\c'ing it to 380 (373 post speed)at 2.3 volts but i cannot for the life of me get the thing to 400. Any suggestions? I use thermal paste but have a stock HS\F.
Thanks

I also have a k6-2 333. No problems @380. To get to 400 I had to up the voltage to 2.3. It was running really hot so I had to go back to 380. I use RAIN to help a bit with cooling. You might want to get a better heatsink/fan. I believe the standard heatsinks are rated only to 380. I would never go higher than 2.4 volts or maybe 2.5 on a cold winter day. Good Luck

Well i tried running it at 380 all weekend but i kept getting mysterious lockups and crashes. My monitor even came out of sleep mode when it locked up in the middle of the night. I really do think that my chip is not really that good for overclocking. It runs at 350 like a rock (very stable) but 380 i cannot run Photoshop 4, IE5, Windows explorer, and solitare. It just locks up. The heatsink seems like it is running at room temp but my mobo is mysteriously hot especially in the area that my pci cards are in (modem, soundcard thats it!). I even run it with the case off. Should i get a better H/S + fan combo or break down and buy a new processor?

Okay, first off you don't have the best MB in the world. You say the MB is getting hot, but what about the chip? Have you tried lower voltages?
If your chip has the CXT core, it should support higher multipliers (it redefines the 1.5x and 2x jumper settings). With those, you can run 400 on a 66Mhz FSB. While that's not what you really want, it may work and would also help track the problem down.
Are you using good PC100 RAM?

Only the CXT core chips changed the 1.5 and 2.0 multipliers and only 350Mhz and up have the CXT core. Get you a good 350 with a CXT core and it'll run 400 at 2.2 or 2.3 volts. My friends 400 won't do 450(took 2.4 volts) stable without heat problems which is listed in the AMD docs. A 400 runs upto 60C and a 350 can run upto 70C.You could always go for a k6-II 450,500 or K6-III.
