I bought a k62-550 to fill a hole in an extra Mobo I had ( Asus p5a with SOUND) I know...I know...
Anyways this thing runs hot. NT4 or 2000 wont install only win98 which is a bogus installation. The power LED blinks, I put a GORB on it to try to cool it off any it crashes. GEEZ...! I checked all my settings m etc.
If anyone has had one of these things, any suggestion is welcome.

Are you sure it is because of heat? That may be a stupid question and I'm not trying to offend you, but how are you sure it's heat? Does your BIOS give you a reading? If so, what is it?
Try bumping the voltage to 2.4v to try for added stability. It may help, even thought this seems like a heat problem. My 550@600 acted funny, like it was overheating during games, but I bumped the voltage from 2.5v to 2.6v and everything straightened up.
Also, do you have any case fans? You should have a couple. At least one for intake and one for exhaust. My 550 is currently at 600mhz using 2.6v and being cooled by a GlobalWin FEP32 sink/fan. I've also used an ALPHA and GlobalWin FKP32 sink on the same set up with no problems. I don't know anyone using the Gorbs on ss7, so I'm not sure how they perform.
Hope this helps a little!

Am I the first to put a GORB on a SS7 ???

Ok I'll try the voltage thing, your going to think I'm insane but the BIOS says 79deg Celcius. I thought that was stupid but the F**Kin' thing is worse and I've added two fans, 1 in, 1 out. The things been stupid since I got it.
Do you think its possible for this thing to be OC'd and re-stamped ??? I know, thats mental but I've never seen anything like it.

There has got to be someting wrong with that CPU?!?!!?!?!? 79 Celcius!!!! shouldn't be more than 40!
See if you can get your money back/exchange CPU for another K6-2 550.

Yeah thats what I thought...I want to be sure though...its kinda funny, I'm waiting for it to explode !!!
I rebuilt the entire unit. Its booting and ME is going on. I redid the heatsink and I know there's a controversy, but I packed on the HeatSink Grease. What an insane temp though eh???
