Hello guys,

have this question regarding DirectX 9.0, I am presently thinking of upgrading my AGP Card from GF4 MX440 to a GF4 Ti4800SE or GF FX5200, my understanding is that FX5200 support DX9 while Ti4800SE only support DX8. So what the difference between DX9 and DX8 ? I am really into Ti4800SE, could someone enlighten me ?

Rgds.

You can take a look at FAQ via the following, LINK (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx?url=/windows/directx/productinfo/faq/default.htm)

Bear in mind, though, that no DX 9.0 games even exist yet.

And you can install DirectX 9.0 even if the video card doesn't support all the features. (E.g., for the internet sharing part, you don't need a DirectX 9 graphics card.)

On the whole, I'd say that if your budget makes you choose between a slower DirectX 9 card and a faster DirectX 8 card, I'd go with the faster card. Which is to say: out of those two you listed, I'd go with the 4800.

Thanks for the feedback. Guess I will go with the Ti4800, By the way Gainward GF4 Ti4800 now selling around S$215, think it is good buy.:)

I would do a rad9700/9800 for that price. Better performence around the board.

Pricewatch lists the rad9700 as $212 and rad9800 as $232. My 9800 does in the 450MHz range on the core.

Pricewatch lists the ti4800 for around $140 for gainwards and chaintechs.

I assume your currency is in US$, then it's about right. (SG$215 = US$130).

Your GeForce4 MX440 is only DX7, so a jump to an 8x card will help turn on some features in new games as DX8 games have been shipping for quite a while now. Next year will show the trickle in of DX9 games.
