I know it does for me. For instance, if I just booted XP the CDRW and DVD ROM act just as they should, but if XP hasn't been booted in some time things start happening. CDs are not recognized or read by one or both drives, the CD tray on my burner snaps shut almost as fast as it opens sometimes sticking with a CD half hanging out. I strongly susperct this is a flaw inherent to XP, as I never had this problem with 98 or Win2k, and a reboot always seems to fix the problem at least for a while. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Do you know any possible fixes?

I never seen this type of behavior on my winxp installation, could be an installed program creating that problem.

XP has definetely given my DVD/CDRW some problems that i haven't experienced under any other MS-OS.
The primary issue i've had is that on seemingly random occasions after reading a disk it thinks every disk i put in after it is the same disk. The only fix i've found is to simply reboot the machine. I have heard other similear stories as well all pertaining to XP. I also have long suspected it of being a flaw in xp.

That's because Windows XP tries to get in your way more than any other OS I've ever used.
Always asking questions and being freaking dippy as heck.

May be an issue/bugs/incompatibilities with Microsoft's copyright protection software attempt built into WindowsXP...

I would like to add that, before installing winxp, the "boot to a window o/s" option in the bios, should be set to "disable". Doing this prevents a lot of headaches.

I've had the same thing happen that phenix mentioned quite often in Win98. It also happens in XP on occasion, but not nearly to the extent it did in 98. Sometimes clicking 'View->Refresh' would get it to display the proper disc.
The best analogy I've come up with to describe XP's unbearably intrusive behavior is that it acts like Ray's mother on the show "Everybody Loves Raymond". Except it's worse. :)

Download tweakuixp and turn off autoplay from all drives, that's what I always do. No such bad behavior here.
