I just got a laptop for an early Christmas present and it only has 256 mb of Ram in it. Now the Ram in it is SODIMM PC2100 DDR SDRAM. Can I use PC2700 in this laptop or will it mess it up? I was just wondering because I want to put another 512 mb stick into it but I can only find PC2700 at some local stores. Thanks for the help :) .

Crucial only lists PC2100 for that machine. Have you looked there?

In desktops the DDR is backwards compatible, and currently all three speeds are about the same price. Your computer will default to settings for the slowest, but that doesn't mean you have to buy slow.
I'd encourage you to think for yourself.
