i m using Toshiba Satellite A135 S2386.
got all the help from HWC another thread.. but, still there is some problem, like xp gets stuck and nothing works.. after force restart it's blank, i mean monitor doesn't work for some time!! laptop is on, cause DVD RW works.. but, with no display.. then after keeping off for few minutes it's again working.. is there any serious hardware trouble while using xp ??
i mean is it because our laptop doesn't support xp ?? is there any risk ?? i m worried because i don't have any toshiba or any support center nearby :-(

I have a toshiba satlellite a205-s5804 and I to am looking to go back to XP from Vista but I am having trouble finding the drivers. I called toshiba tech support and as the tech girl said, Toshiba wouldn't be offering support for XP because as she put it "XP is obsolete". I told her that Toshiba should go ahead and offer support because xp is going to be supported by Microsucks till 2010 and that many people who bought systems with vista are switching back. She asked me what my problem was and maybe she could help.. I asked her if she could do anything to make vista not suck so bad. I laughed but she didn't. She said she had my concerns noted in the call log and that she would make sure that they were seen, which means nothing will get done about anything.
I wonder why Microsucks would allow any system to be sold with only 1 gig of ram and Vista, maybe they want to hear people complane about how slow vista is and how bad it sucks. I guess any press is good press even if it's bad. Well any way I need the drivers for XP so I can be rid of this crappy Vista.

Hi all,
I just got a new Toshiba Satellite P205-S6277 Notebook that had Vista pre-installed. I have counted the cost of staying with Vista and it is out of the question to stick with his OS:mad: . I want to revert to XP-Pro:rolleyes: . and was wondering were I can obtain the computable drivers? Anyone have experience with this?:)

Hello,
I have purchased a Satalite A215-S5837. I am already familiar with vista, and so plan to goto XP pro. However, from the sounds of it, finding drivers for XP for these has proven difficult. Does anyone have a suggestion for this model??
Thanks!

Hi,
I too have down graded my Toshiba laptop A135-2286 from Vista to XP. I have trouble in finding the drivers for XP. I would appreciate if you send me all the drivers. My email id: [edited out by moderator-no personal info, please]
Thanks in advance
Arif
Purhcased the A135-S2386 and spent quite a bit of time downgrading to XP. As many others, I wouldn't have bought it had I known...
This site/thread has been a great help...thanks to all.
One minor problem that I am having:
I have a USB wireless mouse that registers. All button and the wheel work on it, but it will not move the mouse. I'm assuming that the S2386 allows only one device to move the mouse...this is all weird, but nothing really surprises me about this machine.
The Fn-F9 key to disable the touch pad does not work. I have installed the Direct application launch button.zip and there are currently no unknown devices in device manager. No hang ups, etc..the system is stable and working fine.
Has anyone had any luck getting the Fn-F9 button to work to disable the touch pad? Also, any other method that will let me disable the touch pad would be appreciated. I have looked in Control Panel, Device Manager (even uninstalled the device that is the touch pad), and in the BIOS, but there appears to be no way to disable the touch pad.
Thanks

I tryed to download this file but I could not find it. Please can you tell me where or how to download it.
Thanks and Regards

I was just wondering wether those drivers worked properly. I own a A135-S4487 and I'm planning to downgrade, installing some (or all) of the drivers you have shared.
I haven't read about the S4467 hardware configuration yet, but I guess it is quite close to the S4487's. Anyway, if anyone knows about anything that could bring me any troube, please, warn/advise me.
I hope I'm not asking too much.
Sorry, my written English is not that good. I'm from Brazil.
Thanks a lot.

I wanted to thank you for the list of XP drivers for the Toshiba A135-S4487.
The installation of XP and the drivers went very smoothly.
Everything is working great. Again thanks very much.
Toshiba
That's exactly what I got, the A135-S4487. At least that's what it says on the bottom of my computer, but, the toshiba.zip file that was listed in this thread isn't getting me quite everything. Specifically, I'm not getting the either the wired or wireless LAN, or the biometic. The biometric isn't important to me, but, I'd like to get it eventually.
Fortunately, I was able to find the wired LAN driver. It's a Realtek 8101E, and I found it here:
That is getting me everything except the biometic, which I'll probably try to dig up sometime, but, not important to me.
If I ever were to go back to Vista (doubt it...) but if I did, I think I'd get these drivers from the supplier, Toshiba seems to stick in extra crap in the ones they ship.

According to Toshiba website,
That notebook utilizes "Atheros Mini PCI/PCIe Wireless Lan".

If you are stating that you had the notebook specifically ordered with WindowsXP, rather than the default Windows Vista, from Toshiba,
You can contact Toshiba for drivers.

Hello all! Success! Toshiba does make drivers for XP.... but only for the UK! I just finished loading XP on my A135 --S4677. I spent several months seeing, who hsf XP drivers for Toshiba laptops. Of course Toshiba does, but does not release them to the US market. My research showed that Toshiba still/recently sells laptops within XP and therefore XP drivers. Recently, Toshiba at a US release of, a new BIOS that was for all. OS’s.
So I got a new hard drive, (so I could keep my old one with XP on it for warranty purposes). Then I slipstreamed a new copy of XP, and the Intel; Storage Matrix Manager, Chipset Drivers, and Video Drivers. Used be created slipstreamed XP w/ drivers and loaded that on new hard drive in my Toshiba.. and it booted and ran the first time. Windows found and loaded many drivers, and only two items showed as “Unknown Devices” in XP Device Manager.
For the “unknown devices”, and the devices that were not correct. I used UK drivers from the UK Toshiba website. I had selected two models that were closest to mine in chipset, processor, and display adapters, figuring that Toshiba would not make that many different models. I knew there had to be US models that were close to UK models. So of all the models. I studied two were closest to mine in chipset, display adapter, and processor (CPU).
So after a few rounds of trying various devices (partly following the Toshiba install list). I loaded the device drivers (after first setting system restore points along the way). After restarting my machine several times I finally got it. So all devices are shown as working! Some were out of date, I know, but I also got a few extras that are not offered on US models!
Everything is working great, and I advised everybody to try to Drop Vista! Also, to get at all perfect, Best Buy has Driver Genius on sale for nine dollars $9.99. I ran that and it found most of my out-of-date drivers and corrected them! Trial and effort got the right UK drivers from the two UK models closest to mine.
The only thing that is not working properly is the front or plug-in microphone. It is not a hardware problem, as with the Vista hard drive installed. It works fine, but with the XP hard drive it does not. I have the latest and correct drivers for the sound but it still is not working. Sound works fine, just the microphone does not. I just cannot figure out what is.
I would be greatly appreciative if anybody has any idea of why my microphone is not working in XP. Other than that, a lot research, a new hard r drive, a new copy of XP, a whole afternoon, but now I have a Toshiba laptop with XP, and it runs fast and great!
My Toshiba laptop feels like it should have from the beginning, so give it a try. Again, if anyone has any idea why my microphone and microphone jack are not working now with XP, but to work with Vista…. Please let me know.
Oh yeah cost for XP was $95 with shipping, hard drive was about $60, the rest was just effort and research. I now effectively have two laptops, one with XP one with Vista!

Hi, PM me for the ftp to host the drivers. I will upload the driver package that I used. Everything works except for the Function and hotkeys. I have not been able to find a compatible Toshiba common module installation, if you find one that works, please let me know. Some people have suggested checking out the UK version of Toshiba's driver site for those, but I have not had time to look.
Also, a couple of the drivers don't have the setup.exe, so you will have to read the README files for instructions on how to install those. The instructions are pretty straightforward.
PM me the ftp and I will upload for you to host. After you have it, perhaps you could post a link to the ftp so that others can benefit?

I hear you brother. Did you get all the function keys working? I could not figure out what I needed to install to make those work. There was some Toshiba control utility that was required, that I could not find a compatible XP installation for. Toshiba control utility will not not really do anything and there is no XP workaround. I think that is a Bios thing on Toshiba's? I tried probably a dozen toshiba control utilities and many other Toshiba drivers.
What video chips (display driver) is on your laptop? I got mine to work nearly perfectly with the brightness / contrast settings in the display utility that loads with the display driver. Mine was an Intel Display Driver.
There are also a bunch of utilities that can be made to work depending on the model.
Let me know and I will get you the settings for the display settings depending on which you have.
Oh, and instead of 20 hrs there there is a way to make the install a snap. Like under two hours from bare drive to fully running.

I have a Toshiba satellite A130 Customized and I hate, hate, hate evil vista like none other. Is there any way of making the Fn keys work in XP? It would truly be a blessing. I'm currently using Ubuntu but i'd really like to go back to xp.
cheers!

The mainboard chipset is intel 950PM and the videocard is nvidia 7600 go. i should also mention that it's NOT the videocard that's controlling screen brightness. nview under xp and nvclock under linux don't work, although in ubuntu, the fn keys work perfectly.
any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

Fn keys work perfectly in ubuntu. Hmmm. The only way I got anything to work for video settings was with the Intel Video device manager, but you can't with the nvidia manager. So then does ubuntu work at a different level with the hardware?
If it does you might have a direction for someone to make fn functionality in these machines. Real interesting and probably best addressed by someone with ubuntu tech experience. Must have something to do with the layer the ubuntu works with/on. Why would functionality not work with no other drivers in XP, or Linux, but does in work in Ubuntu? Does ubuntu have it's own driver that it works with?
Maybe someone at Ubuntu can explain why. If you asked them that would let us all on to something interesting. Maybe they would want to claim a victory for ubuntu?
My mainboard driver is Intel 945.
What do you use the fn keys for? This is really interesting. Hope you find a way, if so post it on this board and we can all see it. I would really like to know.
Best of luck to you!

Well, I've tried it and it works perfectly in opensuse aswell. Bottom line, linux kicks ***. Shame you can't play as many games under it :\
I currently don't use anything to change the brightness on my screen. I actually *gasp* tried Vista yesterday but it killed my computer. It wouldn't boot. Not even from CD. Nothing. I had to take out the hard disk and erase the entire partition table to get to the bootloader again.
So anyway, taking into consideration that the Fn keys work in vista just after you install the intel chipset drivers, I think this problem could be solved easily by someone with moderate programming skills. Shame I have none.
Also, the fn keys WORK even in BIOS, up until when XP starts loading. Very strange.
Ideas are still much appreciated.
Cheers.

Good riddance, my friend. You can get drivers for everything(get everest and then look for the drivers according to chipset) but you won't be able to control the screen brightness. I've tried for at least two weeks and i asked a lot of people. No help. I'm sure as heck not going back to Vista so that leaves Linux as my only option.
If anyone figures this out, I'll buy him lots of beer! Or her :)

I have a Toshiba Tecra A7 (with no restore disk), and it's impossible to find all the drivers for it on the internet. I've been on Toshibas useless website, several other forums, and miscellaneous driver collection websites that won't let you download more than 1 driver per day.
I'm trying to install XP SP3 as well, but should I just install Vista? I don't mind Vista as long as I can get ALL the proper drivers. Any advice? Where can I get all the Vista Drivers? XP Drivers? What else is compatible with the Tecra A7 laptops?

You can quickly find them by using Driver Genius. Just select that you want to upgrade the drivers. It will ask for which OS you are using, then download the proper drivers for you! I found it on sale there a couple of times (Best Buy) for less than $20. You don't need the 2008 version but will have to get it if the 2007 version is not available.
Failing that send back the Chipset, CPU (processor), Video Card (or system your computer has), and the Model number of your Toshiba.

I went to the realtek website to get my sound to work when I dowgraded from vita to xp sp2
choose third down labeled:
Windows 2000, Windows XP/2003(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file)
I chose site #1 but I'm not sure it matters
I followed install directions rebooted and my sound works:D

I think I have a successful way of adjusting my brightness controls in my Toshiba a135 S4467. I will have to watch and see if it stays stable. I figured since the display is a separate chip that once it is commanded to do so the settings should stay. I wanted full brightness all the time and my downgrade made it the dimmest all the time. So I just reinstalled Vista in another partition and then in my dual boot system I booted to Vista and set my brightness controls. When I rebooted to my primary OS, Win Xp Pro, the settings held. So time will tell. I hope that helps some. I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know if this had been suggested before.

Hi Mastertask! What is the specific Model number of your Toshiba?
Also, did you try the "Drive Genius Pro"? I got mine at Best Buy for $19.00 after I figured it out the slow way. After I got everything loaded I saw how nice it is to use... just finicky.
Because you can select the OS you want drivers for you can run it on a system with Vista and select that you want to know what drivers you will need for XP.
Makes it very easy. But if you want try sending me your model # and the Chipset, Processor, and Video your system has. I will try to assist you.

Hi Steve. Driver Genius will NOT have anything to make function keys work. That is handled by Toshiba. Now the functionality of the Function keys in most cases can be handled by other methods.
For example, my Satellite video function key items are for a large part managed by the Intel Graphics Desk Top manager. Sound volume by the realtek utility, but I lost the plugin capability for a mic. That I have somewhat over come with a USB mic adapter, but the sound volume of the laptop works off the Toshiba volume control on the system.
As I said, most things work great and the system runs very fast with XP compared to Vista. World of difference and would not go back to Vista.
Good luck with everything.

To get Drivers for about any system just do this....
1. Open Driver Genius and update the program.
2. Now go down to "Update Drivers" and select the OS you want the drivers for no matter which system you have or want to have the drivers for. This will search your system for what it needs and their data bases for the system you want the drivers for.
3. That is it. Down load and install the drivers (after the HD is cleaned or you have a new drive.)
Now I needed to download them twice and often if you don't restart I noticed it will see that it needs them again, so restart to get the system and DG to see you have the correct drivers installed.
Other than that it works great and I wish I had known about the program before I went through the "hunt and install" a year before I did the UPGRADE to XP. But you should be able to get most of the correct drivers.
I did need to go to Toshiba EU for some off beat stuff but found it all there the first time anyway.
Good luck and enjoy XP.

I have now confirmed and tested with Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred that a USB adapter works for Microphone funtionality. I bought a USB microphone adapter and now my Satellite microphone works perfectly.
It was $8 on Ebay. Listed as a 7.1 adapter/sound card. Has a 7.1 channel adapter button, on off button, two buttons for sound volume, and lights for on and off. When plugged in it is USB and uses the XP C-Media USB driver and seems to skip the Realteck driver/device all together.
It works great! So for $8 I solved a problem of what seemed an unfixable driver issue. So after about a year of struggling my Toshiba works nearly perfectly with XP. No major issues left!
Good luck to anyone else who uses this work around!

After hours of searching for drivers I found that if you goto support.intel.com and run there automatic driver finder tool it will fix video drivers and some of the other missing ones. I have a A135-7406 unit i was hunting these down for and after research I found this method works for a lot of makes and models of toshibas. The one driver I have not yet found its the Modem Device on High Definitions Audio Bus.
Also if anyone needs some help with Nividia Drivers I have an automatic driver finder for them on my site codebluehelp.co.cc/downloads.html

Did you set your laptop to boot from cd first?
Windows XP should give you the option to format the hard drive early in the installation process.

That's always been my experience but on this one, I set the bios to boot from the XP cd, it loads some drivers and gets to a point and goes blue screen, saying it's stopped the installation to avoid damage to my computer, etc. (I'll get the actual message and post it.) It then stops the install. I've tried three different times and so far no joy. Any suggestions?

Here's the message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
That's it. This is a pretty much stock Toshiba, haven't done much to it as far as modifications or virus protection because I don't use it that much since Vista is not a pleasant experience. But I think it came loaded w/Norton (not certain) would that prevent a wipe of the HD?
Anyone have an idea what's keeping me from booting from an XP disk? Or have a way to get to C: prompt in Vista that will allow me to reformat the HD?
Thanks!

Found the problem!
Read on another site about changing the bios.

3rd post down on page 1.
Went to the bios and changed the raid from AHCI to Compatibility.
Worked fine. Can now boot with the XP cd.
Now going to find all the drivers first before I take the plunge.
Thanks for the help. Hope this little info for getting past the BSOD helps someone else.

As a follow up; I got XP loaded and running and all the yellow question marks are gone except for the "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus". Anyone know what this is? I'm assuming it's just the phone modem, which I don't really need but would like to have just in case. My sound works fine.
Otherwise, the rest of the drivers were found on the net, a lot of them on the Toshiba web site. Downloading the chipset drivers from Intel first was a big help.
A couple other hitches: Sometimes it gives me a balloon message saying it can't recognize a device I plug into the USB port, like my HP plotter. Been having a tough time getting that one to work at all, though my HP OfficeJet L7590 printer/copier/fax/scanner seems to be just fine using the USB port. I'm using a USB to Centronics parallel cable and have gotten it to communicate once with the plotter but the drawing was incomplete, like it was selective about what data it would take but I believe that to be a driver issue. I'm going to find a USB to serial cable instead and try that. I've never tried plotting to this plotter (HP 750C+) through a USB port before.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to all the help I found on this forum. You guys are great! Too bad Toshiba couldn't be as helpful.

1st off, i had to register to say a a BIG thank you to EVERYONE who's posted! i'm "updating" a friends Vista Toshiba l300D-10Q to XP as it came loaded with vista. Toshiba make pretty good laptops, and even this basic all rounder is great with the right OS. Which begs the question WHY ON EARTH would they try FORCE their customers to use Vista? Sadly when I put XP on, loads of drivers refused to work. I used a USB stick to put on an antivirus, a decent browser, and the wifi drivers (found on the toshiba website) After that it was a breeze getting the drivers. Apart from 2, the sound card (which i fixed using a link provided on this forum) and the Graphics card.
The sound now works perfectly, THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR HELP
My 2nd (and seemingly everyone's) problem. The ATI Radeon x1200... i've tried several drivers from AIT and toshiba but NOTHING works. It won't even recognise it! Thank god the computer has a decent generic display driver otherwisde this would have been impossible. After using hundreds of genuine drivers said to be for xp, and also modded vista ones (which just caused blue screen) i was about to give up and re-install vista. Then after one more flukey search I came across the working driver!
BOTTOM LINE, my ATI Radeon X1200 is now 100% fully working on windows XP professional! using THIS http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/integrated_mce-xp.aspx?type=2.7&product=2.7.3.3.1.3.2&lang=English
I hope this works for you in the same way it did for me.
