Hi all,

I just got a new Toshiba Satellite A135-S2306 Laptop that had Vista pre-installed. I can't stand Vista! I was one of the many beta testers that Microsoft didn't listen to. Anyways, my wireless connection kept dropping, I dug around and updated drivers but nothing made a difference. I finally lost all patience when I was writing a discussion for a college class and as I was sending the connection went bust and I lost an hours work.

Anyway, I re-upgraded back to XP and haven't been kicked once yet. Plus, all my programs work too! So, now I have a new problem, my ati card drivers won't work, they were designed for Vista. Does anyone know where I can find XP drivers for this system? Toshiba is not returning my calls.:o

Missing Drivers:

Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
SM Bus Controller
Unknown Device (Looks like ACPI Controller)
Unknown Device (Same)
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

you can go to the toshiba website, but I would run the system restore discs to get a fresh xp on there.

You can try the ATi Radeon Xpress 200M chipset drivers available at, ATi (http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/integrated-xp.html)

The system shipped with Vista Pre-Installed, so I used my own XP disk to revert back. But, for some reason I guess Toshiba doesn't want people to go backwards, no drivers that I can find.

As far as those ATI Drivers, I downloaded the exact file your link shows and it says the drivers aren't supported by my system.

This has me really stumped. Maybe Omega drivers? Or is there a auto detection service for ATI Chipsets?

Thanks!
Matt

If model stated by you is correct,
You can try the PC Wizard software to see if it identifies the chipset/components making up the laptop.

PC Software Wizard? Through Windows? I did double check the numbers on Toshiba's site and doubled checked the bottom of the laptop. It is A135-S2306 with Graphics Chipset : Radeon® Xpress 200M. Still nothing.

I've been bumming around Toshiba's site for the better part of an hour and can't find an E-mail for Tech Support. Does anyone know if it exists?

Thanks again,
Matt

I have this same problem and I have played for a long time... I have found that MOST of these problems can be delt with by just simply going through and using the Toshiba Utility on your vista rescue disk and HAND PICKING what you install. I have every thing up and working and I stil have 4 exclamation points. the only real issue in performance is that it hangs up intermitantly while web surfing and then continues. I am thinking some sort of IRQ conflict? any help??? But all of the sound and video is for sure on that disk along with the wireless driver and ethernet and modem....

Hey, Vistaresistor...I am also having the 'hanging' problem on IE. I noticed it after installing the sound driver off the vista install cd. I reinstalled it and it seemed to clear for a little bit but now is back. It is extremely irritating. Reminds me of the 'dialup' days. Did you happen to find a fix?

My husband and I both backleveled our A135s since our work network doesn't support Vista yet. He went to W2k. I went to XP. His isn't hanging like mine.

I am not having any hang problems, did not use drivers from Vista (although I'd love to get the 2 unknown acpi drivers fixed....still can't control my brightness with buttons.).

I am at work bu if interested, I could post a large zip on my site. I have a a135-s2246 (lower end model) but I trust the same drivers?

please post...what is your site?

Forgive me for a silly question, as I'm not a technical person at all. The download everyone is using for the XP drivers... if I want to downgrade my A135 from Vista to XP, will I have to get an XP program PLUS that download with the drivers or will that download have everything on it for me?

Maybe I shouldn't be trying all this at all, but I'm desperate. I have a brand new computer I just want to throw out the window- Vista ****s! I've asked several IT guys to do this for me and they won't/can't. Geek Squad told me they wouldn't do it b/c Vista is *clearly* the superior system! WTF?!

Am I going to have to run out and buy XP now to downgrade the computer? I've buried so much money into this damn thing by upgrading the RAM (still didn't help) and three weeks after purchase, the LCD backlight went out! AGH! How much will XP set me back now?

:(
TIA!

then
Install all the necessary drivers.

I downloaded them and found the ATI omega video driver worked. I already had the rest of them, but I think they would work. It is worth a try. Still haven't found anything that handles the SM Bus Controller and the two Unknown Device items.

Wow, thanks so much team. This worked great for my a100-wa1. It's a Canadian model. I went with the Omega drivers and they seem to have worked like a charm. I also needed to do the South Bridge driver thing too.

Now all I have left is a "PCI Device" I have no idea what it is. Everything else seems to be working fine though.

Thanks again.

Hi guys!

I just had to register here to post this: THANKS! A BIG WHOLEHEARTED THANKS!

I am in the same boat, downgrading (the right word should be "upgrading" a Toshiba A135-S2086 back to Win XP. I'm doing this for a customer; just imagine the amount of time I'm WASTING searching for drivers, thanks to Toshiba and Microsoft greed.

This thread has been a life saver. I have been able to find most (and hopefully all) the drivers by reading here. I downloaded datar's compilation too, I'll post later to let everyone know how it goes.

Curse greedy Microsoft and their lackeys! I'm losing money in this job, I would have to charge the customer over a hundred dollars for the installation, if I was to charge my time. But I just can't do that.

So, once again, and as final word: MANY MANY THANKS!!!

Toshiba does not appear to officially support WindowsXP in that model.

Unless someone has already done it before you,
You will have to do what others here have basically done.

Go through the Device Manager and record the brand and model of each component,
Then do a corresponding search for each individual driver.
You can also list them here and perhaps others may be able to assist.

It would help us help you if you botherd to list the type of ethernet conroller you have in your Toshiba? Looking up model numbers for people and then looking up drivers for people is not fun. I am always willing to help but you gotta give us a break eh? What type of controller do you have? Name? model? a/b/g/ etc etc

Format the hard drive, then install xp, but you have home premium so your entitled to the free downgrade from microsnot with liscense. Don't expect any help from Toshiba though!

Recently we bought two Toshiba A135-S2326 laptops for just $450 each INCLUDING Canon multipurpose printer printers. What a deal! These are 1.6 Celeron-based widescreen machines with DVD burners.

As everyone here has already noted, Vista is a disaster for these laptops. I reverted back to XPpro and with the help of you all I've gotten them to work--almost.

--I still can't control screen brightness.

--The DVD control buttons on the left side of the keyboard work fine.

--I can't shut down the LCD at all for power management in the Control Panel.

--I use Acronis for backup. My Acronis boot disk tries to load, then gives a message, "ACPI: Unable to initialize ACPI objects" and hangs.

Any ideas? Other than these issues, the laptops are totally transformed by going to XP. They are fast and responsive and the display and keyboard are a pleasure to use.

You are gonna have that problem. The acpi is a ***** to fix. You will have to use a power saver from another model. I used the latest d/l I think it was 11/06. That got rid of the error, but I still can't open the "Toshiba Power Saver" nor can you unistall it NO WAY NO HOW! It just wont work. Open device manager look for errors and then blow your mind and click on view and click on show hidden devices.....see more problems? yep I am sure you do. I have not been able to get the dimmer controls to work either. Those two problems seem to be it. GD luck

Purhcased the A135-S2386 and spent quite a bit of time downgrading to XP. As many others, I wouldn't have bought it had I known...

This site/thread has been a great help...thanks to all.

One minor problem that I am having:

I have a USB wireless mouse that registers. All button and the wheel work on it, but it will not move the mouse. I'm assuming that the S2386 allows only one device to move the mouse...this is all weird, but nothing really surprises me about this machine.

The Fn-F9 key to disable the touch pad does not work. I have installed the Direct application launch button.zip and there are currently no unknown devices in device manager. No hang ups, etc..the system is stable and working fine.

Has anyone had any luck getting the Fn-F9 button to work to disable the touch pad? Also, any other method that will let me disable the touch pad would be appreciated. I have looked in Control Panel, Device Manager (even uninstalled the device that is the touch pad), and in the BIOS, but there appears to be no way to disable the touch pad.

Thanks

i've been using a wireless usb mouse with my Toshiba A135-S2276 for a while now without any problems. i can use the mouse and the touch pad simultaneously and interchangeably if i want to.

you shouldn't HAVE to disable the touchpad.

IT'S ONE OF THOSE MICROSOFT MICE AND I DO HAVE TO OCCASIONALLY RESET IT VIA THE LITTLE RECESSED BUTTON ON THE BOTTOM OF IT.

then it starts working again.

Thanks for the reply...

I do have the same mouse that you do. Earlier I attempted to press the connect button on the bottom of the mouse to no avail.

This problem is strange because the buttons and scroll wheel on the mouse work, but when I move the mouse the cursor doesn't follow...

i installed DATARS' original .rar driver pack via the [add hardware] control panel. it includes ATI omega drivers and they've been working fine for me.

XP-SP2 recognized the mouse without me having to install any special drivers.

i did download & install the touchpad XP setup [Windows 2000/XP v8.3.4] at:

so i could have its control panel for tapzones and whatnot.

On mine I installed the catalyst software.

all it is is one phillips screw in the center on the back of the laptop. The screw part should come up and then gently pull the cover off and that should be it. I have removed mine three times already.

Hi guys....I have an A135-S2276. I bought some new memory for my laptop but now I'm having problems trying to install it....the is that I cannot remove the memory cover on the back of my laptop. I unscrew the screw but the cover don't even move. I tried is some many ways, but I don't know what to do anymore. I saw that you guys changed or upgraded your memory, so I hope you know how to do it....

Thank you all....
Yeah you gotta remove the screw, then stick your nail in the little cutout, push down and slide and lift all at the same time. Mine was a little sticky at first too. But since then it opens right up. I noticed that there is some sticky tape around the edge. At least on my unit there was. You could always use a large short handle sledge hammer too, that worked wonders with mine. :)

> running Vista Home Premium, and I must say it is the worst OS ever.

No, no, no, you really do not comprehend the depths of OS terror until you have had to deal with Windows Me -- usually said with about the same tone of derision usually reserved for "F*** Me."

Trust me -- there is a REASON it was an absolute failure as an OS so bad that even the OEMs stopped providing boot recovery disks for it only 6 months after the first machines using it were released. Yes, I'm serious about that.

Oh do tell! Can we start a Vista bashing thread, or Toshiba corp bashin thread and forward it to Toshiba? Come on I love Vista, kinda like a zit with an in grown hair next to it, at the top of the crack of your ***. JUST out of picking/squeezing range and your to embarrased to have the ole lady do the unmentionable. Kinda goes with, "You bought what? THAT WORKS HOW WELL"!. Come on Vista is great once you spend an additional $200.00 for two gigs of ram, then it actually purrs. But hey we didn't buy our Toshibas to watch porn, or crunch video's or do graphics while on the road to our 60k a year job did we? Try loading up Vista with the new Adobe suite and two gigs of ram......it is like trying to get a dry golf ball through a straw...ohh oop's (have to ask the ole' lady whats that like for comparison)be back with a report...Since I am a gluton for punishment. I did a dual boot with this machine XP/Vista and guess what? SCREEEEEEEEEEECH.....stick with XP ole boy.

if there was ever a good non-government target for a severe beating it would be a toshiba laptop pre-loaded with vista.

i've got an idea. let's take a really nice new computer with a fast processor and then severely bog it down so that the interface will look really pretty, because theses days pretty trumps functional. then, with the right marketing campaign (which probably cost more than development) and enough retro-fitting hurdles to prevent people from going back to an OS that, after years of updating, was finally getting to a point of stability, we'll totally cash in on our captive audience when they find out all of their old software no longer works. i know! while we're at it, let's make all of the third-party people write all new drivers for their devices. get started boys!

this is how we will compete with apple and their snarky TV ads.

It is certain that the bios these laptops use are not acpi compliant with OSes other than Vista, if someone can get a similar model with xp pre-installed, our chances of getting the job done will increase. TOSHIBA A135-2386 WINXP DRIVERS PLS

UNKNOWN DEVICE?
UNKNOWN DEVICE?

All other drivers managed to install from someone who had a bunch of drivers posted in a website, that was so cool nice of him/her, I will post the drivers soon here, 123MB file.

I need help with these two unknown device or How Can I disable from being poping everytime I login.

Thanks
VIJAY
If you don't figure out how to 'fix them', then let them error out and then when the 'auto install' (another microsnot fav) pops up, check the little box (I think it is on the left hand side, lower) in the dialog window that say's "do not remind me to install again" or something to that effect. That should stop the nag. Otherwise you may have to fart with the registry and I can't remember the key to change. Somebody here probably does, since we have been getting drive to drink over these Toshiba's. :)

Your proc running at half speed is interesting, I have not seen that one yet. Have you gone to power options in the control panel and set them to always on? Mine slows down when I use the laptop function etc. Of course this chews through the battery (not that great in the first place), I leave mine always on. remember TOOOOOOOOOOshEEEba has a power management feature that is VISTA only and it allowed you to throttle down the proc..
Your skittery mouse is video related, turn down the hardware acceleration and see what happens also gig up the ram to max. have you surfed back in these forums for the ati link? You will find the specific video driver for your 'mobile radeon'. I used the Omega drivers, but dumped em right away. If you go that route be prepared for a lengthy ordeal to get rid of the old drivers etc. I always say format to dump em.
Let us know if you up your ram and it works. I am running a gig and a half and am contemplating going to max.

There is, in my opinion, no need to expand ram unless you are running a few select programs. For example, when I run a video-steadying program called DeShaker on my desktop PC I note that it eats up 400MB!

One way to tell just how much ram is needed is to install a little freeware utility called "RamPage." It sits in the System Tray and displays a number representing how much of your ram is not needed at that moment. On the two Satellite laptops that I converted to XP a few weeks ago, RamPage typically shows 200MB (out of 512MB installed) is sitting idle. This with a fairly robust installation of XP with Office and numerous other programs installed.

If, on the other hand, you see numbers like "10" or the number varies a great deal, then increased ram will help prevent disk paging.

The Satellite laptops with Celeron 1.6 processors were dogs under Vista, but with XPpro they are delightfully fast. I note with some interest that other non-Toshiba laptop buyers on the Internet are trying to upgrade to XP also, and are facing similar issues trying to find drivers.

Thank you for your response. The processor isn't much of an issue for me since the system doesn't feel sluggish at all. I also leave my system always on (and plugged).

I'll try to turn down the hardware acceleration, and yes, I'm also planning on RAMming-up the machine to 2GB after I have enough money. I'll try to post the system's developments after the upgrade.

I'm not exactly sure which of the links posted before is the ATi driver you're specifying since there are a lot of them.

As always, I'll try to post on any developments I come across. Thank you very much for your assistance

Well, it looks like turning down video hardware acceleration doesn't solve the mouse freezing issue.

Anyway, does anybody know what the hidden unknown device is for? If I remember correctly, it's ACPI-related or something?

Also, maybe we could request Omega Driver to create a driver specific to our needs. An XP-compatible ATi Radeon Xpress 200M driver for A100-A135 series Satellites. This might solve the video issues most of us are experiencing.

That's all for now.

I have a Toshiba A130-ST1313 here and I've gotten all of the drivers working with the exception of the function keys and the device manager still shows two unkown devices.

I *REALLY* want to smack someone at Toshiba for not allowing XP support on these notebooks. We run XP in our domain I'm I'm in no mood to work on getting vista business integrated into our domain yet.

The atheros driver did give me fits but I found if I manually installed it and told it what driver to use it does work fine.

Using the catalyist driver mod mobilitydotnet2 and it seems to work, but I still don't have an ATI control panel.

Any ideas on what the last two "unknown devices" are?

Here is a list of what drivers worked:

Modem - Toshiba Drivers
Sound - Toshiba Drivers, I would imagine realtek drivers would work too
Video/Motherboard - Catalyist drivers, but no control panel working
Network - Windows loaded at install
Wireless - Atheros Ar5006X, but had to manually force the driver install and pick the driver from a list.
Smbus - ATI catalyist

I'd really like to get the function keys working if at all possible. Anyone know what drivers are typically needed for those?

Good luck on the FN keys, those are actually a Toshiba software dependant thing, based on Vista. I also just found out that the drivers for other models under xp and Toshiba were actually a different chipset, than the ones we are stuck with. Now unless some really good coder can be 'persuaded' (thumb screws, or bribes come to mind) to modify the drivers for the 'other' chipsets, I think we are *** out until then or as I have said before EVERYBODY start writing ****ty reviews about Toshiba. I think I have personally wrote about 300+ plus now and continue to find sites daily that allow reviews. LOL

I have a Toshiba A135-S4467 and thanks to the people on this thread, it is actually working wonderfully after downgrading (not even sure that's what I would call it after working with Vista for months) to Win XP SP2.

I have no errors in Device Manager. Thank you!

HOWEVER, I still have the problem with the mouse freezing up occasionally causing the laptop to freeze and I have to reboot.

I don't want to bring up the same problem over and over again but since I'm not seeing any problems in Device Manager, I wonder: is it the video driver? is it the mouse?

I hate to install something that might screw up something else. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

tnmdt5, you need to spend the time to go back and read the forum on this issue. (I hate that when you get newbies, that want to cheat) Some of the Vista drivers will work under XP and most won't. (he is gonna be back sniveling about freezing:)) So use the driver pack(s) and you will be up and running!

Hey Vamp I am using the catalyst software from ATI for my video driver pack. I am not sure anymore what number etc. If you want I can check?
Chances are if your m200 video crap isn't liking the ATI version you still had some Omega laying around in there messing with you. Omega was fine I just couldn't get my resolution to what I liked, and it 'appeared to cause freezing'.

My job requires that I sometimes use the laptop with a portable projector and run ppt. How easy is it using the XP drivers to switch between LCD to LCD w/ CRT(extended desktop)?

If it can be done how easily?(hotkeys?)

I have noticed that sometimes you need to hit it a couple of times to get it to kick on both displays. Now also be aware I have not used this using the Omega driver pack floating around here, I suspect that it won't work and you must use the Original ATI drivers.

Hi friends, after very work and with the help of this fórum, I obtained to install all drivers of the Notebook Satellite A135-S2266. Then, nothing more just than to share drivers with all!.

This package includes:

Video - Radeon Omega Driver
Sound(in Folder Audio) - Realtek WDM R170
South Bridge - ATI Catalyst
Keyboard (in Folder Teclado ) Driver
Wireless - Atheros
Modem - Toshiba Software Modem Driver

Instructions for installation

First, it installs Universal the Audio Architecture, and after that, it normally continues installing drivers. I had much difficulty, therefore I installed drivers without installing Universal the Audio Architecture and then the Xp detected the modem audio device on high definition bus. But I read in one another one fórum that it was necessary to install the UAA before installing drivers of sound and modem.

Then I formatted the Notebook one more time and I followed this described script soon above. Who not to want to install the UAA and to try to install the modem, can try, I am only recommending because 100% with me functioned in this way, and cannot guarantee that driver of the modem it will install without the installed UAA.

After to install drivers conventional, they will go to lack three drivers, being these, 2 Unknown device, such drivers are drivers of the Keyboard, that are located in the folder Teclado. The modem audio device on high definition bus is the modem of notebook.

It wanted to ask for excuses for my precarious English, I am Brazilian. I wait to have helped!

The first thing I would do is download Belarc Adviser (Google it). Run this program and it will tell you what the chipsets and drivers are in your System. I would then print this list so you can see what you are looking for. I believe you will find mostly Intel. You may then be able to go to Intel and see what drivers they support For XP. The other drivers that Intel may not support, you may be able to search on the web. For the most part the Toshibas on this forum have had only minor problems with Fn key and a ACPI hidden driver after the downgrade. Let us know what you come up with.

PS This thread is getting very long and has alot of info on it. You may wish to start a new thread that pertains to your model. You may get better info.

... I finally found a driver:
ndis51_663

The problem is - I went to so many sources, cannot recall where I found this one. It was an 'old style' driver install where I specified I have a disk and pointed to the folder with these drivers.

One listed at the following link,

I have a Toshiba A135-S2326 that I have rolled back to XP Pro. Following tips from this thread, I got everything working, save a few of the function keys.

I have one remaining problem I haven't seen discussed here. When I use the keyboard to enter text, I get strange results. The cursor will often jump around in response to a keystroke, so that the result is garbled. Sometimes my text just disappears. While typing this short entry, I've had to backspace, reposition, then retype about 15 times.

Any ideas?

I read message 405.

My problem is not "lagging/freezing mouse". Mouse touchpad works just fine. Problems occur only when I use keyboard.

I guess you are recommending I "wipe" the drive and start over. I'm pretty sure I did a full format the first time around. Do I keep the Toshiba partition?

After you zero out the drive, install XP on the drive, make sure to make the HD active then continue the install of XP. Also do full format, not Quick.

If you like to make your Laptop run faster, then remove the 5400RPM drive, an install a 7200RPM HD. Take the old drive and put it into an external. I do this for all my Laptop customers.

I was able to setup a dual boot with Vista and XP on my A135-S2326.
Here is the link how to setup dual boot: http://www.apcstart.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp
I have no question marks in Device Manager after I followed the instructions of the people on this forum but when I am looking at the signals of the wireless connections around me and they are very week comparing with the once that I get if I boot with Vista.

Anybody had the same experience of having very weak wireless connection after downgrading to XP? Anybody have any idea how to fix it?

Everyone having trouble finding the xp drivers after reformatting from vista should try this neat little program its called "Driver Genius Pro" just install then click the upgrade drivers link & it finds you the latest original drivers to download.
I had the same problem formatting my laptop from vista to xp & now everything is perfect, no more yellow question marks..

The Toshiba Common Module driver and the hotkey utility are not needed. They add no improvement to the Fn keys (soft keys). I have discussed this in person and found that the Fn keys are controlled by the operating system. After restoring my system, again, the Fn keys worked right away except for brightness, wireless and some others. I have found some possible solutions: Vista supposedly has the drivers (which I don't know how to copy from Vista to XP), updating the keyboard driver in the Device Manager or getting a program to assign hotkeys. Even though I want all my soft keys to work, I'm content with what I have right now. It would nice to know a sure way to get them all to work with XP.

If you download the ati driver from ati, then go to driverheaven.net, or search for "mobility modder". they have a utility that will fix the inf files to install the`latest driver for your video. I have a A135-s2276. Downloaded the Rar from your link, used the latest ati drivers / mobility modder, and downloaded the generic synaptic xp driver. Seems to work great. Now to hunt down the Fn key utility.....

You are on the right track. The current driver the XP Pro loads is a 7/2001 which is a 5.1.X.X version. It needs to be a 6.X.X.X version looking at Vista and one of my launch buttons under XP Pro. I did manually load a Vista 6.0.X.X version driver after modifying the ACPI.inf file. Bad news is my PC would not boot after that, but the fix was to copy about 4 files back into the Windows directory and I was back up and running. Someone with Windows Media version might be able to help.

Just some thoughts.

working Fn keys are the holy grail of this forum.

my attitude has always been 'screw it, who needs 'em?'

i just set everything up how i like it and then i just leave it alone.

but if somebody actually made them work i would be very impressed even though i never use Fn keys anyway.

I have TOSHIBA Satellite A100/ 1100 D and was vista preinstalled and was downgraded the operating system from vista to XP home.

I want to know how Fn Key will work.

My Sound Card Driver is also not working properly.

It appears to work very well. I'm assuming it is controlling the backlight intensity and not the pixels but don't have any way to verify that.

I am currently having trouble with the computer coming out of standby. Using the ATI Catalyst Driver Set (on XP Home SP2) when I wake up from Standby the video adapter does not initialize and video is not visible on the LCD nor an attached VGA device (haven't tested with S-Video but would assume to be same results).

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

You need to go to the device manager (my computer) look for the devices with the error messages (the little yellow triangle), right click and click on 'update driver', click on 'let me choose location', browse to the CD (where your drivers are) and start cliking on things until the open button activates and then it will install. (after you clcik on the open or ok button I mean). This is tedious but most likely you will find the driver some or all. I just start at the top of the list and work my way down (that is what she said) :)

Nonong,
I think you're misunderstanding; you don't need to boot from the driver CD. UnRAR Datar's file to your hard drive, then burn an ordinary data CD consisting of all those folders. Start your system and use Control Panel to Add Hardware, use the Automatic feature, and tell it to look on the CD.

Good luck.

Hi All,
I think I found a source for drivers for an XP UPGRADE on a Toshiba laptop.. from Toshiba! After months of "data mining" using keywords and my model # which is a Satellite A135 S4677. I found various requests on forums for XP drivers I never found anything but requests for drivers... some successes but no one seemed to have found a single source.

I did find a year old article about my model from an old European tech magazine. So then my search switched to looking for the model on the Great Britain Toshiba site. No luck by my model # so after a few weeks surfing Toshiba GB forums I decided to take a different track. In the search function I entered my processor model # Which is a T2080.

Several old and current models showed up so I matched the equipment listed with that of my model. Bingo... found an almost exact match, at least for what they listed. Mine has a 1.73ghz Pentium, 80gig HD, 15.4 screen, and Intel GMA Graphics 950. So did a Toshiba Satellite Pro A200-18P on the site. The model # PSAE1E-01C008EN is different than mine which is a PSAD0U. But the rest of all the specs is the same.

Checking the download section (on Toshiba site) http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/jsp/home.do?service=UK&from= and under Support & Download/Download Files menu I entered the model and model number of the English model that matched mine and I found the Vista and the XP drivers for that model! Including the Toshiba Flash card feature for XP. Most of the other stuff seemed to be there also!

The only thing that did now seem to match the U.S. Vista equipped model (mine) was the last Vista Bios date. I have not tried any of them yet but if you want a chance at an actual Toshiba source do a search on their site for your exact processor model and then compare it's features (particularly graphics adapter) to your's. It should give you several results then just compare them to your Toshiba.

So now I am curious if the XP bios update on the GB site would work because I found out from the polite but unhelpful Toshiba folks, that the screen brightness problem many seem to be having in their UPGRADE to XP, is a Bios controlled feature... not a device driver at all. Other than that I think I might have found the source for the exact drivers for the devices on Toshiba laptops as made by Toshiba.

If I get time this weekend and a new hard drive (I will keep my old with Vista on it for warranty purposes) I am going to try some of these drivers. Good luck to anyone else who tries and post to let us know if it worked for you!

Cheers!

I should clarify that what amazed and surprised me was that although Toshiba sells a model in the U.K. that (at least on the specs page) shows as being identical to mine, and lists downloads for those devices, the U.S. downloads does not list the same devices as having XP drivers. The bios is the only thing I am not sure of.
So if you are looking for some hard to find device drivers you could check the U.K. downloads for the model closest to yours and see if any of those downloads might work.
Now does anyone know where I can get a bios modified?
Good luck.

Hey bige,

I also purchased the same laptop, Toshiba A135-S4656. I reformatted and partitioned the drive thus in the process of trying to get all devices to work with Win XP Pro. Can you tell me where you got the drivers or send them to me by chance? I hate to go back to Vista Ultimate.

Thanks,

Michael
edit by admin: no contact info permitted on the forum, thank you

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4656 and wiped Vista out and put XP on it. I am in need of 3 more drivers. They are:

PCI device (Unknown Device Identifier said it was something wiht Texas Instruments)
PCI ISA bridge
SM Bus Controller

I downloaded the Toshiba A135-S2276 XP Drivers Full pack mentioned eailer in the forum, but that didn't really get me anywhere. I've been looking for these drivers for 2 days now and am starting to get ticked off. Help please?

I figured out the screen dimming situation. All you need to do is dim the screen by using the function keys when the computer is at the toshiba boot screen prior to it loading into the xp boot screen. You can't dim anything once xp begins to load. If that doesn't work, you can also dual boot xp and vista, dim the screen in vista and then boot into xp. Hope this helps.

I could not find the S7403 model on Toshiba's USA download page. What are the specs? Pocessor/vid-chipset/etc? That will give you an idea how hard it will be to find the drivers.

Just my opinion, but it would be slow with just about any operating system. Most of the drivers should be around though. I checked on the 950 for XP and they did make that. But any computer with a Celeron and 512 ram would not be fast. Are there any other deals? On like a dual core or an AMD Turion? Even a Sempron 3500 (only if it has 512 cache) would not be terrible with a gig of ram. RAM is relatively cheap on Ebay.

No matter what it will not be easy or switch to XP (unless you have some experience).. But the drivers should be around either on Toshiba USA or Toshiba UK. If the Celeron has 1 mb of cache it MIGHT be bearable.
If you buy on price alone you might end up disappointed.
(the above is my own opinion:-)

Good Luck!

Welll, hello everyone. As you can imagine, I'm in the exact same boat than the rest. I'm trying to downgrade my toshiba laptop from Vista to XP, and I'm looking for the drivers. I was able to use some of the drivers posted here for older models, but can't find the sound drivers for my model, which is A205 S4577. That worst part is that toshiba europe doesn't even has this model listed.

Any help on drivers for this will be appreciated.:)

A search on the net has that notebook associated with the Realtek ALC268 audio chip.
You can check to see if the generic Realtek ALC268 drivers work.

Hello,
I did some minor searching to see if anyone else had attempted or accomplished what I have before even downgrading this machine from vista to XP. Now I've done it, I've aquired all of the necessary drivers to get the machine up and going by looking up the hardware ID's and grabbing drivers, I want to share it with others as other people have done this for me for other machines i've downgraded for people in the past. Here's the drivers you will need:

Atheros Wireless: xp32-5.3.0.56-whql.zip
Toshiba Hotkey Utility: hotkey_util_24597A.exe
Intel 945 Express Chipset Family Video Driver: win2k_xp14311.exe
Intel Celeron M Processor Identification Utility: pidenu15.msi
Intel Chipset INF Driver Package: infinst_autol.exe
Realtek High Definition Audio: WDM_R182.exe
Realtek RTL8101 Gigabit Ethernet LAN: xp3264_v5.678.1003.2007.zip

*
ALL OF THESE DRIVERS CAN BE FOUND ARCHIVED ON MY SERVER HERE:
http://www.ehkz.com/mirror/Toshiba_A135-S7403/
*

TOSHIBA Software Modem will be detected as Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus and the driver can be updated by using Windows Update. Also, the Mass Storage Controller (The SD Card Slot) can be obtained by doing a windows update.

Hope this helps people that find this page by google searching, as I have.

As a note one the Toshiba Europe driver list's they also have the instructions for which order to load the drivers in. For example my US modal is an S35 A4677 but the closest match buy listed equipment is a satellite Pro A200 18P series.
One of the downloads is an "Installation Instructions " " Please use the list as the recommended Software and Driver installation order."
Listed Equip: Intel T2080 Processor, Intel Video 950 (mine is an Intel 945)
The installation order instructions are in this file: install-20070924111751.zip
on their site.

Hope this helps someone as I saw other posts where people had what seemed to be the right drivers but had problems. Maybe the install order list will be usefull. ??

Hopefully this will make it go smoother. The instructions

Hi DropVista,

Did you ever get up the nerve to update your laptop with the UK bios? I'm very curious to know because your idea seems to make the best sense. I'm not sure who added the links to the names of what the filename was for in my last post, but that's pretty stupid that you modify my post and it's not what I originally posted to help people out.

The files that I'm hosting on my server (and since I was stupid enough to buy one of these stupid laptops from bestbuy in the first place) will remain on the server in my mirrors section.

I do not know if those links that whomever added are any good. No clue at all. I cannot tell you exactly where I aquired the files (most were from manuf) but I have them tested, and am running them on the laptop. I'm also testing out a couple of different versions of the toshiba software, may have some updated information as far as that goes soon. The ONLY thing that I do not have working at this point is the function keys...:(

And yes, to answer the comment up above, I shoved 2GB into the laptop within a day or two of purchase. I was still having problems, so thus decided one night while bored at work to write down everything that was shown in vista for driver name and the hardware ID, and then blow the machine away and do it again in XP. Finding drivers wasn't THAT hard but there's a LOT of misleeding information like "OOOhh.. try this one, or wait, try this one off the UK site,.. or try this one" Noone seemed to really know and these made everything work.

Once again, the URL for the XP drivers for the Toshiba A135-S7403 from Best Buy Black Friday Sale are here: http://www.ehkz.com/mirror/Toshiba_A135-S7403/ No thanks is necessary, just enjoy as I said earlier I'm just returning the favor for people that have produced an archive for this in the past for other laptops that i've downgraded to Windows XP.

If anyone is interested in helping research the toshiba software or has ideas/thoughts on it, let me know as i'm always open to suggestions.

All for now, happy downgrading everyone!

And, I would appreciate it if my post is not modified this time, thx. :D

Have backup sources on standy, since broken links reports are non-stop.

Time situations did not allow me to go very far with other than research so I was diverted me away from my quest to DROPVISTA. However I did find out more by "data mining" and ended up on some Chinese/English forums and sites about 10 days ago and most said (the parts I could understand) that my computers BIOS was XP compatible standard. ????
Hopefully in the next week or I will probably just do the convert using the standard bios.... or...then again I also found an XP Bios (V1.4 dated in June for the model) on Open Drivers.com!

So many choices and downloads. So I think I am ready... when I get the chance. The only question I still have is can I overwrite my current Vista Bios V1.6 with an older version 1.4 for XP???

Good luck to all, I will post results as I have the time.

I just acquired a Toshiba Satellite P205-S7402 at Best buy during the black Friday sale, and as everyone else, I would like to 'downgrade' to XP (at least) so my programs may work on this laptop (I simply can't work with the new castrated version of Word this new laptop came with) and because I can't stand how Vista forces me to convert to its religion!!!

One example... What ever happened to being able to browse the content of the actual computer instead of getting obscure links that hide the content to make it more difficult to access? Why is Microsoft so intent on hiding the computer's files from the user?! GAW!!!

So the inevitable question is, is it possible to rollback this laptop to XP (I would actually prefer Windows 2000) with minimal functionality loss? If not I'll have no choice but to return return it as although it has a very nice screen, what's the use if I can't work with it efficiently.

I wish Microsoft would stop being so imperialistic and forcing its views on the rest of the world. If I could help it, I would still be using Windows 98, my desktop has been running it for a decade now and although I installed and uninstalled tons of stuff in that time, it's still running perfectly well and with no complaints from my extremely well adjusted software ( Apart from Win98SE, the only other Microsoft app that I run on that machine is my extremely cutomized version of Word, everything else is much more efficient freeware or shareware, some of which I am still using after more than 10 years)

For openers, XP SP2 is a lot better than Win2K or anything else before it. I agree with your assessment of Vista, but i have found a way to make it work.

That doesnt mean I'll stick to it because I've already created a separate partition for XP. Yes, you can change your P205 to XP, but you will have to be prepared to go scavenging for the XP drivers.

Thank you for your very pertinent answer. I wanted to try Win2K because of the interface, but have since found out that XP can pretty much be made to behave like Windows 98 or 2000.

My concern, and I believe it is the basic concern of many here, is two-fold: firstly, there is the hardware operability and efficiency issue when 'downgrading' but secondly, and that is an even more important concern IMO, is the compatibility with old software of Windows Vista.

And this has been irritating me for a long time, this new philosophy that Microsoft and many other software giants such as Adobe seem to have adopted since the early 21st century: Make it accessible to all, and hide the inner workings so that 'dumb users' won't be able to crash their machines. In other words, users are dumb and need to be told what to do and how to think and frankly, I find that very offensive. The net result is, it's harder and harder to make your own computer behave the way you want it to!

It's as if computer makers and OS programmers only thought of newbie computer users. What about those of us who have been computing since the days of the Radio Shack TRS-80? Although I admit hardware was seriously limited then, it would seem that since Windows 98, no real improvements in true performance and stability have been made in software and that programmers have basically been asked by marketers to dumb down otherwise excellent software to 'make it accessible to granny'. The Computing paradigm appears to have shifted away from smarts and performance towards bloated, thoughtless convenience.

OK, I agree that this assessment is a bit simplistic and reactionary even, and that I am forgetting the real improvements that 32 bit and 64 bit computing can allow but what has changed in real life? Wordprocessors may have become 'more convenient' for newbies but you just try to set up your machine the way you want and are accustomed to work with!!! GOOD LUCK! I was just trying Word 2007 and I simply can't make it work like I am able with Word 2000! There is no way to work in full page full screen (no bars, noo menu) mode!!!

I remember when Windows 98 came out a refractory programmer whose name I forget made a tweaked version or install available (Windows 98 Lite) that was high performance without the Internet Explorer bloat and interface that does not add any real functionality and forces one to view one's computer as just another internet terminal instead of an individual machine with it's own filing system and an internet connection. In other words, Microsoft has singlehandedly decided that users would not be individuals anymore but simple units connected to a vast web. Philosophically, that is WRONG. That new Vista computer is CONSTANTLY trying to connect to the internet and do stuff that I did not authorize, presumably for my convenience!!!

Anyway, I can truly relate to all of us who are trying to do things our own way and are basically told by 'those in the know' that their way is the 'better way'...

Keep up the good work and post your results. I will be foillowing this thread with great interest.

And for those who long for the days where computing was an art in minimalism, just look up on the internet for a ramarkable demonstration in computing efficiency and art called "the .product" :)

Toshiba does in fact list ALL of their drivers on their website...I took a look at the spec page for this model and got some info off of that page to start the installs...if you look throught the list...you can find the drivers you need for XP...There are over 5,000 drivers there...I am amazed at all of the posts about this issue, but some are very helpful as to let you know the drivers you need...life should not have been that hard!

December 17th, 2007, 10:19 PM
I have everything I need to try to drop[ vista on my A135 S4677. I even got a new hard drive so that I can keep my Vista drive (for warranty purposes).

Can anyone assist me? Can I flash an older version bios over a new one? I have v1.6 installed on my A135 S4677 and I found one from last summer V1.4 that supports XP. Can I just reflash that or is there a process I need to take to uninstall the V1.6?

Anyone know?

Thanks

but I couldn't find it.

I have an a135-s4467, and my friend helped me out by installing the drivers for XP. Everything seems to work, but the thing pauses every couple of seconds, and we're both at a loss. This is frustrating because I use my laptop for mostly music and movies. It causes a stutter in the sound and video that makes it unbearable.

Anyone know how to fix this? Please? :D

I just decided tonight that I am tired of Vista. I have 2 gigs of RAM and a so-so video card in the ATI 128mb and my system crawls. I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-7444 and I'm going to start tomorrow in bringing it to XP, which I consider an upgrade. I'm going to read through this thread and I'll post later to let everyone know how it goes. Wish me luck!

Remember to record the brand/model of all the components making up the notebook.

Crap, I am missing one bloody driver! I can't get the sound working. I am missing a PCI Device in the Device Manager and Driver Max says this is what I'm missing:

High Definition Audio Controller
Manufacturer Microsoft
Hardware type System devices
Hardware class System
Hardware ID VEN_1002&DEV_4383&SUBSYS_FF0A1179&REV_00
Vendor ID 1002
Product ID 4383
Revision ID 00
Match probability 100 %

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite A215-7444 and my chipset is AMD M690V. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello,
TOSHIBA Software Modem will be detected as Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus and the driver can be updated by using Windows Update. Also, the Mass Storage Controller (The SD Card Slot) can be obtained by doing a windows update.

Hello - I bought the a135-s7403 for a first time computer user that will be using dial up and I cannot get XP to recognize the modem. Can anyone help? I tried doing what Brent mentioned without success.

Thanks to all...

Yes, they have lots of drivers, but not all of the ones listed for XP will actually work with models specifically designed to run on Vista drivers. I had to go to the Atheros, Realtek, and Intel websites to get the ones that would work with my S4656.

I also had to try out about a dozen variants of the Toshiba Softmodem drivers before I literally lucked into the right one -- a driver not intended for use with Win XP, but one intended for Win2k.

Go figure.

I found almost all of the other drivers I needed on that website, but there were two that I only found on the European website.

If someone is patient enough, they can find, by trial and error, everything they need.

Apparently, though, not everyone is willing to go on a scavenger hunt.

Rare models are very annoying..
I am in the process of looking for all the drivers now, trawling through Toshiba's site (this one: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modItemList.jsp ) along with (more helpful) broad google searches.

Basically I've put XP over the Vista and have installed Windows Service Pack 2 (which seems to have corrected one PCI device - I have yet to check if I can connect to the internet with ethernet cable.. the wireless still doesn't work).

I'm having trouble finding out exactly what hardware is in the computer - even after using a hardware detection program, all information I can muster is: vender = Texas information/ Intel corporation

Any help in locating the drivers would be greatly appreciated ^^.

My version is the Toshiba A135-4656 and I have all of the XP drivers for the following devices:

Intel(R) 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller - 27C4
Primary IDE Channel [Controller]
Secondary IDE Channel [Controller]
Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family [Display adapter] (2x)
Generic CardBus Controller
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C9
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CA
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CB
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC Realtek High Definition Audio
TOSHIBA Software Modem
Atheros AR5006EG Wireless Network Adapter
Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
Microsoft AC Adapter
Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad [Mouse]
Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller
Toshiba Mobile PC Driver
USB Root Hub (5x)

Unfortunately, what I don't have is a product key for Win XP. Because my version of XP Pro is OEM, Microsoft will not provide me with a new one. Also, Microsoft does not allow Vista Home to be downgraded to XP.

I had the 15 days to test out these drivers before I was asked to activate Windows, so I know that they all work, and I will make them available for others to download. For a few of the devices, you may see more than one file listed. Since I cannot get back into XP to figure out which one is the right one, you may need to install the 2nd one if the 1st one does not work.

The only driver that did not install automatically was the Toshiba Soft Modem (which also has the Universal Audio Bus). For that, you will need to do a "Search for New Hardware," and point to the INF fle in the folder where you extracted the modem files.

All of the files should be uploaded to my server by this afternoon, and when they are, I will post the link to them. Be sure to check with the Intel and Realtek websites to see if they have any newer drivers than what I will provide.

If you like to make your Laptop run faster, then remove the 5400RPM drive, an install a 7200RPM HD. Take the old drive and put it into an external. I do this for all my Laptop customers.

been a while since i posted on here, but the laptop's [A135-S2276] been running great with datars' help, but now i'm thinking of going back into the breach so to speak and install a new, faster, larger hard drive as is mentioned in the quote above.

i saw some toshiba laptop hardrives at the store yesterday...

so, i was wondering, do i need to 'ghost' the old drive onto the new one before i install it?
or just install some startup/bios files onto the new drive before or after i put it in?
or can i just put the new drive in and install XP on it from the CD?

just weighing my options before i jump back in.

btw, bioshock won't run under the omega drivers.
something about requiring pixelshader 4.0

 if it wasn't for cool new games i'd never upgrade.

I have found several download links and will be collecting drivers in the next few days for that exact computer (bought it at Best Buy as well, I assume?). I sure wish my son would do that for his dad like you do for yours, I sure can understand his frustration with Vista

If I get it all together and working before someone else does I will sure post it somewhere, but as I am very busy it may take a while.

Vista is so frustrating, and Word is so outrageous I simply haven't been able to work with it and have only used it for making video presentations while I have continued to use my trusty Windows 98 desktop to produce my work.

For the first time, I feel Micro**** has made a huge mistake and has basically lost it.

I sure will be following this thread with great interest.

Anyway good luck and keep us informed.

Have you checked Toshiba Europe's site? Downloading stuff from there as we speak. They are slow though (on the order of 2-8 KB/S).

Here is a link, it may ask you to revisit the main page. If so go to support then download. Key in your model (the number on the back of the laptop, not necessarily the same it is sold under).

this way i can do some more driver experimentation with my new drive and keep the old one as a backup.

The drivers download link in previous pages is invalid.

NOW they are working perfectly on my computer.:D
NO MORE unknown devices.

The package includes:

Video - Radeon Omega Driver
Audio - Realtek xxx
South Bridge - ATI Catalyst (SM bus driver)
Modem - Toshiba Software Modem Driver
Direct application launch button: get rid of the two unknown devices.
PS: For the 2 unknown devices, just
go to device manager, and update their drivers from list, then search the location of the Direct application launch button, click ok, done.

although this driver works for both, you still have to do it individually.

ATI Catalyst™ 8.1 Display Driver for Windows XP Professional/Home Edition - Motherboard/IGP Drivers (http://game.amd.com/us-en/latest_news.aspx?id=AMD000000020)

i installed the new ati driver last night along with the catalyst control center and it seems to be working pretty well. i'll know for sure once i try running some games, particularly bioshock

i used the steps below to install the driver. once that was installed, the catalyst controls loaded right up from the setup.exe.

---

here's how to get the driver to install [thanks to swlatham].

1. Run the Catalyst 8.1 driver zip file and install
2. Install will fail
3. Navigate to a directory on the C drive
C:\ATI\Support\7-7igp_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_sb_gart_enu_49709\Driver\XP_INF
4. Open the CX_49709.inf file in notepad. Next click the Edit Menu then Find and enter XPRESS 200 - This should find the line below:

"ATI MOBILITY RADEON XPRESS 200" = ati2mtag_RS480M, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5955

Enter a blank line after the line above and paste in the line below:

"ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M Series " = ati2mtag_RS480M, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5A62&SUBSYS_FF041179

5. Save the file, replacing the older version.
6. Select Display adapter from Device Manager and select Reinstall Driver
7. Select on second screen "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Click next
8. Select on third screen "Search for the best driver in these locations"
Uncheck the “Search removal media”
Check the “Include this location in the search”
Click the “Browse” button and navigate to a directory on the C drive
C:\ATI\Support\7-7-igp_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_sb_gart_enu_49709\Driver\XP_INF

9. Click next and driver will install the ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M.
10. Reboot and verify the new driver is installed.

---

:D AND the control center has brightness controls! maybe they could be assigned to hotkeys?

i got the realtek audio driver directly from www.realtek.com.tw

most of the hardware was assigned drivers when i downloaded updates from microsoft.

the few remaining unknown devices (PCI bus and 2 others) were fixed by datars' original driver collection.

---

now that everything's up and running, i copied the whole hard drive onto a partition on an external drive so i'll have a place to go back to if everything goes haywire.

I wanted to thank you for the list of XP drivers for the Toshiba A135-S4487.
The installation of XP and the drivers went very smoothly.
Everything is working great. Again thanks very much.

i just recently bought a satellite a215-s5824. after finding out my programs at work will not work with vista, some guys at work helped me down grade to xp. i've looked through these forms for 2 days now, and i'm very confused. i have missing drivers with 5 yellow question marks, 3 of them labeled "base system device", 1 "unknown device" and "video controller (vga compatible)". i've tried to download different drivers with no luck. i think i need someone to point me in the right direction.
what are base system devices?
are all a215 drivers the same?
i would greatly appreciate if some one could help me.

thank you!

i tried the unknown device identifer the other day, but when i go to find driver it googles a bunch of links that are just other forms, are the web pages that are incredibly long (that i don't know what i'm loking for) or is in another langauge. i also tried that belarc, but i think thats over my head. i did find "driver magician", that says they have the downloads (but its $30). is that even worth it for 30 dollars? our IT guy was at work today and he heard what i had going on, and he ran the other way. feel the love

I have the same Toshiba A135-4656 laptop as you and really need the Win XP drivers in order to revert my laptop to Win XP. Please post them to your server and provide the link. Thanks!

I had to wait because my IP was switching to a different server system. I think that I might be able to upload them tonight.

Rather than try to upload massive ZIP files, I'll assign them to different subfolders in my FTP directory.

I wanted to add that the weakest link in the A135 series is that darn Celeron piece of crap. Those of you who own X2, Dual Core, or Core Duo, I envy you! As soon as I get some jack, I'm going to upgrade the CPU and get a original copy of XP.

Also, you may wish to know that if you are struggling with Vistas, Readyboost does work with laptops having 512K or less; but, when you've got the memory up to 2GB, it SLOWS DOWN your drive access!

My advice is to disable that, and any other service running in the background that is non-essential for Vista's operation. You should disable all of the useless gadgets that Toshiba installed.

toshiba doesnt seem to support XP atleast not in the US but if you look at toshiba-europe there satellite l30 uses the same chipset and the driver there seems to work fine

also for the

I have also converted this laptop to xp pro. I was reviewing this most lengthly thread again, and noticed that no-one has specifically identified the model number of the european version of the a135-s2386...Can someone please do so or repost so this thread can resolve and continue productively? By the way, for all those that are interested, I upgraded my bios to the recent version with no hang-ups or problems with any drivers. I origionally got this laptop with the ver 1.1 bios and noticed at that time that above ver 1.2 was labelled as for vista only. Recently all the bios files from toshiba now state they are all for vista...whats up with that? The condensed wisdom of this thread belongs on a web page as a how-to.:D

I just recently bought a Satellite L35-S2366 that was password glitched. At the time I bought it I had no clue that a bunch of the Toshiba's did that. Sent it to Toshiba they un-glitched it and had it back to me in 5 days. Anyway hated how slow it ran with vista. Found this thread stayed up until 4am last night reading almost every post. Installed XP today thanks to everybody and all the great info here I have everything working (dunno bout the fn keys) ..... lol. One minor problem that i have not quite figured out is that when hooked up wired to my LAN its slow.... not quite dial up slow but pretty slow. I have all the ethernet drivers and no yellow exclamation point in device manager. It connects wirelessly perfectly with great speed. Doesn't much bother me only had it connected wired to get some of the updates at first anyway..

Anyway ..... registerd here and posted mostly just to say Thank You!!!!! to everybody..

The condensed wisdom of this thread belongs on a web page as a how-to.

Agreed! This thread REALLY saved the day for me and what I thought would be maybe an hour process! Unfortunately, I can only speak to my specific model: Toshiba Satellite L35 S2366

I still have one Yellow Exclamation regarding the RealTek audio driver I believe, but the sound works and everything else, so I'm trying not to pick at it, I had the issue with the RealTek driver (HHCTRL.OCX) that was fixed with this patch: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448

System is very peppy now and acts like a new laptop should! Let's hope Microsoft recalls the POS Vista and makes a real OS soon!

Hey Guys, Did anyone manage to find the LAN, Audio and Card Reader Drivers for Toshiba Satellite P205-S7402 for WINDOWS XP?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Ok Since I cannot stand VISTA useless software designed for the internet browsing home moron and could not take it any longer and was ready to rip my hair out etc. you get the picture.
here are the drivers for the P205-S7402 I managed to find all for my system.

The drivers are over 130mb so if requested I will make torrent for the DL but here are where they are located and since the US has different #'s this is how to get them
Drivers for the P205-S7402

Also if your video drivers don't work correct, there is an ATI driver at this link too.

AT THE LINK

Choose the Satillate P series
P200
then look at serial on back of laptop, the first few digits will be what you want, for instance i needed the pspb3e for mine

http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU

Also if you didn't already install XP make sure you get the Raid drivers installed on a Win XP disk CD if you don't have a Floppy.
