I haven't been able to find this information anywhere:
Assuming I am using all of the cd's space (I am writing, not re-writing), how long would it take to write the entire cd at 2X and 4X?

assuming you are writing the entire disk which is 74 minutes of data or audio, both take the same amount of time to write, 2x is half that and 4x is 1/4 of the amount in minutes of data you have. one standard disc holds 650 megs of data or 74 minutes of audio, they are both really the same its just two different ways to express the amount of storage. recording times are also approximate but most drives come pretty close to equalling the time they say they write at.

So unless I am going to be doing a lot (I don't plan on doing many) of recording, there i s no point in getting a higher speed?

i suppose you could look at it that way. right now the 4 speed drives cost about the same as the older 2 speed drives. there are alot of different drives out now so look around and read some reviews before buying to see what will do what you want it to reliably.

at 2x its take about 35 minutes at 4x is probably 17,5 minutes for 650mb
