cdmediaworld.com has some information and reviews on cdrecorders and media. super7.net has done one or two also. There are some good deals on right now for cdrecorders. You will get the best prices from some of the shopping sites like pricewatch and killerapp. I recently bought a 4x4x20 ricoh drive and am very pleased with it , it got good reviews also.

Buy a Plextor... You won't regret it one bit!

I just bought a Ricoh for 137bucks at my local store. I'll get the Smart and Friedly 12x recorder next year.

Tool is right. Get the Plexwriter 8/20, or the Plexwriter 8/2/20 if you want CD-RW capability. Some CDR-RW drives offer 4x speed but most can not write at 4x reliably. This is due to there small buffer. The Plexwriter has a 4 MB buffer compare to 1MB for other drives and can write a 8x at 99.99% error free. Whenever you pick a writer make sure it is reliable. The Plexwriter is the best, hands down.

Plextor is the way to go. They have a long history of making good cd drives and sorts. 4MB is important to ensure that it doesn't suffer buffer underruns.

That is when the buffer is emptied due to lack of data transfer from the computer. It translate into dead cd-rs or cd-rws.
