anyone know how to fix broken hard drives?
I came across an old flaky conner 1.2 gig ide hard drive. The motor spins up always, but it wont seek right away most of the time. It does just fine after it eventually seeks (takes quite awhile) until machine is turned off.

If you have an identical drive, try swapping the logic boards. Other than that, there is nothing you can do (on your own) to repair a hard drive.

Does it have to be the EXACT same model and size? I have 2 conners. 1 CFS 1275A and 1 CFS 850A. The 850 works fine tho.

That, I am not sure of. In my opinion, I would think that the drives would have to be identical or of the same series because the circuitry is unique to each series and capacity of drive. In your first post, you mentioned that the drive takes a while to seek. It sounds to me like the heads crashed and damaged an area of the platter. A head crash causes physcial damage to the platters in the drive, and can only be repaired if the drive is sent to the manufacturer. Check out Conner's website, and put another post up about swapping logic boards.
