Need to upgrade from 12X CD ROM and 56K non flashable (older model) modem. What is best economicle solution. Want to get significantly better performance (if possible) but don't want to spend a fortune. Any suggestions?

Acer make cheap CD-ROM's, but for just a little bit more, you can get an Asus, or Aopen CD-ROM, which I believe are far more efficient.

Will I see that much performance gain if I go from a 12X CDROM to say a 36X? I have heard that most of the info read by the device is at slower speeds anyway. Also, what about a good 56K modem. What is a good 56K modem at a resonable price?
Thanks

well get the fastest cd rom you can... i have a 56x .... the access times are MUCH faster than a 12x..... youll be really happy with a fast cd rom
as for the modems, i think creative makes a good one.... i have an isa modem blaster and it hulls ***.... i download stuff at 5k/sec and sometimes 6 or 7......
