Hey there,

I have a HP-3400C scanner (USB) that was working fine since I've installed Windows XP. Well, it's important to mention that at the installation of Windows XP the scanner was detected and installed with a Windows driver. Then I started to use that, and it was ok.
About two weeks later I decided to install the original software (in the scanner CD) and then the scanner stopped to work.
So I thought: It's simple, I will deinstall that and the scanner turn to work again! Poor me. My scanner never worked again!
I tried everything you can imagine: deinstall, reinstall, manual delete of the drivers, etc, etc.
I stayed at HP site and got an updated driver for Windows XP, but it not works.
The funny thing, is that the Windows recognizes (detect) the scanner installed in the usbscan0 port but the status is "unavailable".
I know, you can think that I am with my usb port burned (and I thought it too), but I have Windows 98 installed in my system too, and the scanner works there.
The strangest thing, is that in the begining, the scanner was working on XP and stopped when I tried to install HP program. It seems that the drivers installed by the original CD "scratched" the XP, I don't know...
Anybody knows what can I do???

Thank you guys!

I am not familiar with XP but I think you have to remove the hardware(scanner) from the computer, then remove/uninstall the software(HP Scaning software).
Removing the hardware in Windows 2000 involves gong through the Control Panel and Add/Remove Hardware.

Welcome to HWC.

Try the updated XP drivers from here: http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/swindex.pl?p=hpscanjet320506&l=en&c=MicrosoftWindowsXP

My 4300c wouldn't run in XP with the default drivers.
New drivers did the trick.

Hope this helps.
