How long Scandisk?

My buddy has been running scandisk for over 24 hours and it is only about 65% done. He has a Dell Dimension 8100 with a 40 Gig hard drive.
Does this sound right?

it does depend a little on when he last did a scandisk - if he did it a while back and has set it to thorough with a large disk then it may take a while....

He just scandisked a week ago. He says his HDD is 25% to 33% full.
This does not seem right to me. He is going on 27 hours right now and is 75% done.

Tell him to boot the system into safemode then run scandisk.

There is something writing to the disk.

If he has anything plugged into his nic then unplug it. I have seen it before. Some isp for some reason continually ping your pc and it causes problems with scandisk. This helped a couple of people that I know.
