im not kidding. for all the years they have bought sole licenses for pro sports games and then turn around and NOT make a game... i wish i could burn the whole company to the ground. last year we finally got MLB back, and sega jumped in a did a better job then ea could ever dream of.... and now this year its NFL again- no madden 2010 for pc and it also means no football on pc for the last TWO YEARS. and for NASCAR it has been about a ****in decade since anything has been on PC. i hate EA more then comcast, that is saying a lot.
Back in the day, my passion was combat flight sims. Any of the NovaLogic games were the s---! Raptor, Mig 29, F-16. I can honestly say about 7 years of my life was wasted, I mean, spent in cyberspace with my fellow fly boys bombing the hell out of the enemy.
Then XP came out and the gaming companies wouldn't rewrite the games I liked.
My son plays Xbox 360 but I could never get used to the controller.
Alas, I've parked my planes in the virtual hangar ever since.
I think it's more about standalone TV centric gaming units. It's really not that complex. Most people nowadays have huge flatscreen TV panels, substantially larger than their computer monitors, which enhances the gaming experience. Add to that hand-held wireless controllers which respond to human gesticulations, and the whole matter should become clear. Computer gaming was primitive by comparison. The saving grace will be in the future integration of home entertainment system and PC. If you can't beat 'em, fuse 'em.

I plugged my PC into my HDTV the day I got it and it is awesome but I still play many games on the PC. Doesn't feel too primitive yet. I switch over to the regular 22" when working on docs.
I wouldn't say that PC gaming is dead but is has definitely taken a hit since the latest consoles have advanced in leaps and bounds in making the console the centerpiece of family entertainment. Before you needed a separate console, DVD/Blu-Ray, PC for browsing, gaming, etc. Now you can all of these things on a PS3 or XBox, (and some on the Wii , well, with some modding you can do more)
I tend to buy PC games because of pure economics. Why pay $60 for a console game if the PC game is only $40 to $50. Plus there seems to be much more replay value with the PC version of a game if there is good mod support.
Now for playing in surround sound I think the console has the PC beat hands down. Much better to play in over the receiver IMHO. I used to have a good PC surround set but got tired or knocking the speakers over, pets chewing on the cables or getting tangled up in them.
I have a PC that can play nearly any current game and a PS3. Only reason I have the PS3 is because I won it at a raffle at work. I was hard pressed to shell out $300 - $400 for a console, but when I think about it I would only have had to pay that amount once and get the same visual quality on a good HDTV that nearly anyone else for the next 5- 7 years. I could end up paying up to twice that amount to upgrade nearly the entire PC and still not get the "best" video card, monitor, CPU, etc.
I still like the idea of having bragging rights about what's under the hood of your PC.

I'm still playing Morrowind, for the second time to be exact, and this time around I'm downloading all those excellent mods taking this veteran title almost to another level! Visual that is.
As for the current state of pc gaming, anyone's waiting for Diablo 3?. Now that's cause enuff to get a new system, mine is a bit outdated by the way.
Fallout 3 and Oblivion too have good modding communities.
Ha, I haven't posted here in years. I remember the big fall-out with the moderators and OffTopic. And them losing 10,000 of my posts . I joined this place in 1998. I can't believe this site is still up and running!
Actually, I recently got back in to PC gaming. There are a LOT of girls nowadays gaming. It's crazy. I've been playing Left4Dead lately.
