PRI T-1 vs. Cable

I am working for a brand new company and they are asking about T-1 service. What better place than here to get any info!
I am not a telecom guy but I wanted to find some things out.

They have posed a question, what is the difference between cable and a T-1 ?
Could we use cable service instead of a T-1?

We are using Cat-6 cable to get 1 gig of service to the desktop and we are also using VoIP 'PBX' for service. I am looking into getting 2 "PRI" T-1's for approx. 50 people, (1 1/2 T-1 for data/internet and 1/2 for voice). We are heavy data users and also do video conf. at the desktop.

My question is what would the bandwidth be at each desktop if I used 2 PRI T-1's with this PBX and VoIP softphones ?

any and all help is greatly appreciated.

You'll want a T-1 for an office environment. T-1 is a leased line with speeds consistent of 1.54Mb/sec. Cable can be up to 2 or 3Mb/sec download, but only an upload speed of maybe 300-500Kb/sec. Get a T-1.

I'm with MitchSchaft, I obtain an average of 58 Kb/sec uploading speed on my cable modem. While the T-1 at work has the same upload speed as the download speed, and it is a consistant 1,500 Kb/sec.

Kb = kilobits. A lower-case 'b' is bits and an upper-case 'B' is bytes. T-1 is still a better option over Sdsl.

While sdsl does offer same speed, up and down, if internet access is mission critical, get the T-1.
