Is a Rio 600 enough?

There was a grand opening at a local fish store yesterday, and they had everything for CHEAP. I bought a Rio 2500(for my cichlid tank) for $24.95. A Rio 800 for $15.99, and a Rio 600 for $10.99.

Would a Rio 600 be enough to cool a thoroughbred-B at 2450 and the NF7-S northbridge at 233MHz? The video card has a heat-pipe on it, so I'm not worried about it. The 600 is a 200GPH at 0ft head.

I saw Rio600 in the title and thought this was about MP3 players. I Also have a Rio600:

So did i.

ut since its a fish tank thing i assume its a water pump.
I suppose it depends how many litres per hour it can pump out.

I think the thermaltake aquarious pumps about 70l an hour and thats ment to be very poor. I think over 300 is excellent as this is what a lot of eheim pumps operate at

Yes it's a waterpump. I can't believe that noone has heard of the Rio Aqua Pumps. 've always used them. You can get two spec levels higher that the eheim for lower price. I've never had one short or give up on me. Anyway, here's the specs for the 600:
0ft head - 200GPH - 757.0 l/hr
1ft head - 160GPH - ~575 l/hr
2ft head - 125GPH - ~400 l/hr
3ft head - 60GPH - ~200 l/hr

It might be a bit low. I had a MAG pump at 250 but it lost flow slower. It could do 60 at 6 feet. You will need a pretty low resistant set-up, like 1/2" OSD tubing. Your blocks and radiator must add little resistance to the mix. I had pretty good flow on my set-up, but I used 1/2 tubing. The radiator was 20 feet of 3/8" copper tubing (almost the same size inside diameter as the nylon tubing) and a home-made water block made out of aluminum with channels about 1/4"x3/8". The block was the highest resistance, but only about 3-4" of channel minimized the restriction (and actually speeds up the water flow inside the block). The end flow was likely about 30-60GPH wich is not too bad.

I think the pump was $35 shipped from petsmart's online store about a year or so ago. The tubing was $15 and has a smaller inside coil around the visible outside coil. The tubing was $5 and I spent another $5-10 on various clamps and elbows. The water block was free as I used some scrap aluminum and used fittings from work and the clip was a modified clip from an old heatsink with little extenders attached so it could fit over the thicker block.

I ran it on a Celeron 900 without a fan at about 40'C full load. With a PanaFlo 92mm fan it ran at 30'C. It was whisper quiet and the pump had only a little bit of vibration (which a small foam pad fixed). Here is a picture of my test rig:

OK, they're on sale till Fri, so I have some time to decide. If you had to choose between these:

Rio 1400(3.9"x2.5"x3.2") Flow (gph) 400 367 333 290 243 27
Rio 1700(5.1"x2.7"x3.7") Flow (gph) 642 620 486 418 352 165 23

They're the same price. One flows better, but the other is way smaller. They're the same price right now. I have a heater core with 1/2" fittings, and it is perfect for a 120mm fan. I also have fiberglass, and I'm going to mold a reservior to the case, and add drain/fill valves in the back. This will maximize the amount of water I'll be able to use without going external.

The other things you also need to worry about is how long will it last and how noisy it is. I do not know the pumps so I can not tell you much.

The one that was on my fish-tank was a Rio. It's almost 5 yrs old. The only reason I upgraded is I got a bigger tank, and it wasn't enough once I added another fish. As far as quiet, the big ones don't make any noise submerged in 125 Gallons, but I'll test it in a smaller enclosure. NOTHING could be as loud as the 4 3500 RPM 80mm fans and 2 2500 RPM 120mm fans I have now. I'm going to take back both 600s and trade for a 1400 in the morning. I'll test it to see how loud it is, and if not happy I'll just get the higher flow one.

Can you say "wind tunnel". Yah I think a deisel pump would be quieter at that point!

You see why I want to go water now?

I got the 1400 yesterday, and submerged in a 1 liter pitcher I can barely hear it. I have a heater core from a civic, and now all I need is a god CPU block. I've got on that will work on my northbridge.
