Just got back from London

Well, not just. Got back last Monday night after a 5 night stay near the Holborn tube. Stayed at the Chancery Court hotel which was a little to nice for me, but whatever, I managed. Had a lot of fun walking around, through Trafalgar Square, Leicester (sp?) Square, Covent Gardens, and especially Greenwich. Pretty cool to see the telescope and stand on the timeline at the observatory.

I have to say though, the best site was the Tower of London. Those Beefeater tour guides really get into it! Pretty neat walking through the armories and such as well as seeing the Crown Jewels. Saw the Globe Theater too, but I didn't find that particularly exciting. Also, we went to the British Museum which was pretty damn cool. That 3D show of the mummy in the sarcophagus was pretty amazing! Not to mention the Rosetta stone and the Ancient Greek and Roman exhibit.

As for entertainment, we saw We Will Rock You, which I must say was AWESOME! Now, just as caveat, it helps very much if you like Queen (classic rock band for all you youngsters). Also saw Stomp which was pretty amazing.

Food wise, I would have to suggest Shanghai Blue for Chinese food. It's on New Oxford St. I think. Damn tasty! Other than that, we ate well, but nothing outstanding.

Drink wise, we hit different pubs every night and even went to a couple of bars, which until now I didn't know were different from a pub. Just a short list of the beers I tried:

London Pride
Hoagarrden
Pedigree
Guiness Extra Cold (the BEST)
Strongbow (Cider, meh)

plus about 15 more I have written down at home.

Never did get to try curry and chips, which was suggested to me in my other thread... kind of wished I had, but I guess that is something to look forward to next time!

Just figured I'd throw this out there. London was pretty cool, and I look forward to going back at some point. Maybe do a little adventuring into outlying towns and cities...

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions in the previous thread...

Good to know you enjoyed yourself mate! Sounds like you got to see a lot too - I don't think I've been to some of those places for over 10 years!

I am not going to lie to you. I wanted to see the sites, but the main thing I was looking forward to was trying all the beers... needless to say, I woke up with a couple of good headaches... thank god you guys have medicine with codeine (sp?) in it!

Hey, that's pretty cool to read as a Brit. I think we have a pretty low opinion of our capital as a whole - probably to do with taking a lot of the more cultural aspects for granted.

I meant to add to my original post, what give with that "pudding" you guys serve at breakfast, which seemed to come with a fried tomato on top? I swear, if I had had a hockey stick, I would have dropped that thing on the ground and taken a couple of wrist shots with it!!! Do you guys really eat that? or is strictly there to confuse us tourists?

Martin, is that Guiness actually any different, or is it just served extra cold. It didn't taste different persay, just better when it was really cold...

Mufu, I think everyone does that. If you guys came to Boston and commented on it, I would probably say the same thing (provided they were nice comments!). A lot of people take what they have grown up with for granted...

Black pudding kicks arse!

Seriously though most Brits can't stand the sight of it, but I personally quite like it despite the fact it's pretty bad for you.

Clotted pigs blood, mmmm

Nah, it looks nothing like what you'd think.

Ah Ok, I was thinking it looked different than that.

It must be good if it is that popular.
