Everyone's Favourite FireFox Extensions

NOTE: This post has been expanded from it's original "My Favourite Extensions" context so that there is a handy list right at the top of the thread with who recommends what extensions and the links to them. The description and link is lifted from their post where possible. Otherwise all links and descriptions are from the main Extensions repository at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/ where the official versions are released. Exceptions to this are noted. Compatability issues where known are noted. Where the extension may be known by another common name AKA: othername is used.

NOTE2: There are some overlaps between users, so instead of not listing these or listing them but referring back to some other user's favourites list for the link I have just made complete entries for these overlaps.

Wow, that's quite the stack of extensions.

Password Maker does a great job of generating complex passwords based on your choice of variables run through an algorithm (website being accessed, user name, etc) plus a master password which can be stored in memory but doesn't have to be. This is a useful tool if one uses a lot of different computers and such.

MuFu, you might want to check out Tabmix Plus instead of Tabbrowser Preferences. I used to use TB Preferences but decided to try Tabmix Plus one day. Tabmix Plus stayed. It does a bit more than TB Preferences.

Here are mine (that aren't already listed):

Ablock Plus - removes many different types of ads
Filterset.G Updater - for keeping Adblock Plus updated)
Remove It Permanantly - lets you remove objects from webpages or entire domains- really helps at HWC
Auto Copy - highlight text on a webpage and it is automatically copied to clipboard
DownThemAll! - adds a multithreaded download manager to FireFox. For sites that let you have multiple download connections at once, this will break a download into 5 pieces and get all 5 simultaneously and potentially max out your download speed.
NoScript - disables javascript applets in all webpages. Lets you manage applets globally or by domain
Wizz RSS News Reader - one of the best RSS plugins for Firefox
Download Statusbar - moves active downloads from the default seperate window into the statusbar of your active FireFox window
Update Notifier - automatically keeps all extensions up to date

Since there seems to be some interest in this, I'll look up the direct links for all the extensions mentioned so far and then add them to the top thread sorted by who recommends them (if there are no objections).

LATER EDIT:
Maybe I'll change the title to "Everyone's Favourite FireFox Extensions" as well

Great thread. Thanks, kaulbach, and everyone else. Already using many of these, but there are some good suggestions here for me to try.

All extensions mentioned up to this posting have been added.
Main Title changed as well

LATER EDIT:
Changed title of top thread post but thread title unfortunately seems un-editable...

the new firefox (2.0 beta) is here to stay. it is a huge improvement over 1.5, and to me its a night and day difference. 2.0 has all the qualities of a stand-out web browser- even if you disliked 1.5, give the 2.0 a chance. ive been using firefox exclusively again. it cuts down on the bs problems that 1.5 had, ten fold.

I usually prefer not to install a Beta until it's been evaluated by the community for a few months and the general consensus or patches are in. But in this case I may make an exception The developer base is rock solid.

Thanks. I really must check out some of these newer/enhanced extensions. One that I forgot to mention is Littlefox.

Nice work kaulbach. I'm giving 2.0b a go since I've had occasional stability issues with 1.5 (ever since upgrading to it, in fact).

I use IETab (already in the list) and Stylish, which lets you apply your own CSS stylesheets to web pages. Good for fixing someone else's bad design decisions.
