Viper 330 vs. Orchid R3d

I have both Viper 330 AGP and Orchid Righteous 3D in my PC. Recently I tried comparing the video quality of both cards under DIRECT3D and it seems that the Viper has poor quality compared to the Orchid. I installed all the latest drivers for both cards. This is very evident when running Shogo or Need for Speed III, you can see that the 3dfx card provides smoother textures. However in OpenGL... both cards have fine images except that the Viper is dark. Could anybody explain this or help me find what's wrong. Thanks...
