diamond stealth III s540 v.s weak compaq agp by sis

I have always built my own systems, hand pick components etc. A storm blew my system a VIA 503+ and ATI rage 128 expert agp card , I was very happy with the performance. Since hownowners insurance was covering the loss I saw a ad for a COMPAQ 5710 that looked well equiped but video performance sucked, SIS 503 AGP 2x INTEGRATED on MB. The best thing I could think to do is get a blazing PCI card ,the diamond I 32meg ram the compaq is 4 meg diamond has the savage4 pro+, My thought s were this high end PCI would blow away the weak integrated sis 503. PROBLEM: after days of tring to get the diamond card to work in the integraded **** system I have to set the accelleration slider in display settings to NONE or I get a black screen when windows desktop should be displayed, I breifly see the desktop icons as there load but bassically the screen is black if I attemp to use acceleration features.

diamond has always given me great performance

but seems that all compaq has is a big name it is built with the cheapest **** parts.

ANY IDEAS????
THANKS!
van
