Orchid SoundWave 32..Please help...

Well, I have an Orchid SoundWave 32 series sound card, and since it came back from my "guru" for upgrades (including new mother board) I have not had sound. I should also mention that I am using a new internet connection (ethernet card) through a dedicated phone line with an external modem.
I have pulled the card and tried it in a different slot as well as pulling the ethernet card and trying it in a different slot...nothing seems to work right. For instance, I hear my start up chime for Win 98 and I also hear my other programs, however, there is a very annoying tick, tick tick sound being emitted as well as when I have my sound card "plugged" in I cannot access my modem- I just get an error that says "Failure to load Tap"??? Anyway, as soon as the sound card is removed, I can dial out of my modem...very strange...I've tryed different combonations of slots (ethernet and soundcard combo's) but, no luck...it really stinks, I finally have some great speed for surfing, but no sound..
I would be so grateful, if someone would be able to offer any suggestions, or advice. My guru is out of town until the new year, and I would really like to see if I can solve it myself first, before spending a lot of money. Thanks alot for your time..sorry its so long, but it is difficult to explain it simply...
Kookie

It wasn't long, just thorough. That certainly beats, "It doesn't work." The simplest thing to check is, w/ the sound card installed, go to the device manager (control panel, system, device manager tab), and check for any yellow ?'s or !'s. These can indicate driver or hardware conflicts. Windows may be able to direct you to trouble areas. If none are present, then highlight the modem or sound card, and click on properties. Windows should tell you if it thinks the device is working properly. If the problem is driver related, you can get the latest drivers from the internet. Try those steps, and it should give a better idea of where you stand.
