VoodooPCI card and HP 8560c Pavillion problems

I have a HP Pavillion 8560c with onboard video, there are no jumpers on the board and no way to disable the onboard video through the bios.(recent upgrade of bios removed that option from the screen)(real smart upgrade huh?) I tried to install the voodoo pci card in slot 3. First I removed all existing video drivers and installed the standard vga drivers. I shut down the computer (not restart)I then installed the vid card and booted up.nothing but black screen. Plug and play did not find the card...fine, no problem..so I moved the cable back to the intel vid output and installed the voodoo card and drivers manually. Then I shut down reinstalled the card again, moved the cable and booted up.....again nothing..same thing in safe mode.... tried disabling the intel drivers in device manager by unchecking the use in all hardware profiles..reboot still nothing.
I have a zoom modem in slot #1 and a soundblaster card in slot #2. I even tried moving the cards to different slots eg. put vid card in slot #1 thinking it may disable the onboard video...(at least according to the "tech reps" at HP) still nothing....PLEASE, is there anyone that can walk me through the PROPER steps to install this card I, as well as many other people, would really appreciate the solution to this frustrating problem, from someone that really knows how to do it.....

Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter

MK

you are doing real good so far!,everything i would have sugested........hmmmm.........

have you tried to remove the onboard adapter in device manager?just highlight it and click remove.

also in bios most of the time there is an option for the bios to use a pci or agp as primary vid card, usualy called VGA BIOS SEQUENCE,then it says agp/pci or you could switch it to pci/agp which for the bios and windows would make the pci card the PIMARY vid card.

i feel the problem lies in the bios most definately, cause all you get is a black screen, even from bios,so bios is not looking at it as a vga card at all,or is not going to send jack to it until the other onboard is somehow disabled.there has to be a setting to disable it or you can reflash the old bios(i think),and disable it.good luck keep us posted ........

First let me say thanks for your response. I've benn trying to solve this problem for over a week. HP is no help at all. FIGURES.

Anyway, yeah I get nothing no bios screen or start up of any kind. I think that the computer just simply does not recognize the card at all.

Yes, I did remove the vidoe adapter with the device manager. I even put the card in the first slot which was supposed to automatically diable th eonboard video. Hp won't even post my question to their bb forum let alone offer advice on how to fix this problem. (what do you think there are afraid of...all thhe other people that have the same problem after being mislead by hp)

But, nothing seems to disable the onboard vid, I feel that until the onboard is somehow disabled the other card will never be recognized.

When I flashe dthe bios with the upgrade I use the term loosely because as far as I'm concerned it was a step in reverse , not an upgrade at all, the choice of disabling the onboard or pci agp etc was removed from thew bios and is no longer offered as an option,....nice huh ??? my only options are 512k or 1mb for video. what were they thinking when they did this ??????

Is it possible to "reflash the bios" with the old settings as they were before the upgrade. if so does anyone know where I can download it ???? not HP that s for sure.

What do you think....time for a new motherboard ????? funny the reason i bought an HP is so I wouldn't have problems like these, they were supposed to be easy to work on, upgrade, and get great tech service...no of which i have found to be true !!!!!!

I hope your'e up to a good challange, cos I sure want to use that vid card..and I don't plan on giving up till it works..

Thanks again,
MK

ok then first things first...........very doubtful ,but this needs to be checked, can you pop the new v3 in a mother board of a friends ect...and check that it works, cause all this work will be for nothing if the vid card dont work........

well im gonna say this......

look hard on the mother board look at all that little bitty writing and make SURE there is no jumper, then go to,where ever the compaq bios d/l are and look real hard for your old bios, also most of the time when you upgrade a bios you save the old to that disk that you are flashing the new bios with,so technicly you should have it.unless compaq is INCREDABLY stupid(which they are).

if i remember correctly compaq has a couple different things going on in the bios,

1 is for setting up devices(pci cards, sound vid ect..)and a seperate bios too,so what i mean there is 2 places to do things not just standard bios like with normal mother boards.

i dont know which key to hit while it starts up but i would try these, esc, delete, all the f's and see if it boots to a setup hardware screen.you may already know this if not FIND IT>>>>>>>

Sorry for the miscommunication , I guess I didn't make clear the fackt that I have an Hewlett Packard 8560c Pavillion, not a Compaq, however I'm inclined to believe that HP is just as stupid as Compaq, perhaps even more so. As if being stupid wasn't enough HP can't even tell me how to make the vid card work !!!!! go figure....if i ran my business the same way I'd be out of business in a couple of months....
