How many types of ATX boards are there?!

Thought that, instead of going along with the herd, I'd outsmart (everybody? myself?) I dunno. Had such a great mobo from AMI the last time, figured I'd go with them again.

At their website is a single-processor classic slot A Athlon mboard, the Megathon. After it arrives, all h*ll breaks loose.

It looks like somebody glued the PS/2 and USB backwards. As in switched places. So instead of going along with the rest of the world (yeah okay herd) and having PS/2 first followed by USB and serial or whatever, it's got USB first and then PS/2 followed by serial or whatever.

Since it won't work with my case -- or with any case I could find -- is there something I don't know? Did everybody know there was a different type of ATX case, and I'm the idiot who didn't know how to specify whether it was or not?

Or is there no ATX standard and, if you're unlucky, you'll end up with one where the template AKA I/O backplate won't fit, hence the motherboard can't be mounted?

Or is it not an ATX board and, instead, some other acronym I was too ignorant about to screen for, such as PLX or NLP or -- I don't know what.

Or am I screwed? AMI stopped replying to my E-mail. They closed the board out at their website. Stuff hasta be soldered or whatever onto the board. Would like to be rid of this weird species of board so I can get an Asus or Tyan, or you let me know.

What's going on? Is there an alien species of motherboard and the joke's on me?

There are several I/O shield types for the ATX form factor.
Link to download ATX form factor specifications: http://www.formfactors.org/developer...x/atxspecs.htm
