That's pretty sad...

One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Could it be that MACs cost more?

Maybe I should release a report that says people that drive BMWs tend to be better educated and make more money than those who drive domestic American cars.

Yeah but what does a mac user know about hardware?

I like how they say mac users are more web savvy You notice the article was first commisioned by apple! Kinda like Intel doing a article about themselves. You think it is not going to be biased?

"Apple customers may be educated, but our customers are smart enough to have chosen Gateway, which offers the best value," said Brad Williams, a spokesman for the PC maker.
wow, "smart" and "gateway" in the same sentence. thats a first.

Nielsen/NetRatings said that 70.2 percent of Mac users online have a college degree, compared with 54.2 percent of all Web surfers. That, combined with their longer surfing histories and their greater willingness to buy products via the Web
hmmm, that wouldnt have anything to do with pre-college teenage gamers without credit cards would it?

ok let me see if i can add a little logic here for the marketing people:
let's say MAC users are 5x more likely to buy things online than a PC user. this is an unrealistically high estimation, its probably more like 1.5-2x if its as drastic as they suggest. but just for comparison, according to their numbers, even with the 5x buying likeliness there are still twice as many shoppers using PC's than macs. its closer to 5-8x as many in reality i believe.
if you were in sales, who would you rather target?

Another thing...

This really means nothing. If all Mac users in the world were to take a test, and all PC users in the world were to take a test, the Mac users would most likely come out with a higher percentage of right answers. The reason is not that they are smarter, but simply that there are much less Mac users, so there is less diversity in the answer. One other thing, the report says that Mac users are more "web savvy" because a little over half have been online for 5 years or more. Big deal, that's just because the Mac is so slow on the internet, it takes twice as long to get everything done.

Must be nice to own a $1500 desktop version of the palm pilot.

Did anyone else find it ironic that there is a big Dell advertisement in the middle of this article?

Once upon a time, marketers could target personal computer users as a whole to reach a more-educated, higher-income base, however the demographics of those with a personal computer have become more similar to the demographics of the overall population as personal computer penetration has grown. Kelly said advertisers can still reach upscale crowds in other ways, such as targeting those who have a broadband connection.

On average I would say they might be.

Remember MAC's are expensive.

Now that said I will say this:

When the $600 PC came out it changed alot of things in the computer world, mostly for the worse.

That opened the door so the average Joe could afford a PC.

Now take the PC users who own $3000 PC's and compare them to MAC users and they would be the same.

And just what in the world is wrong with that!

There would have been no way I would have known much about computers if my Mum would not have got me my $1200 66MHz cyrix AST Advantage! back in 1995. I left home in 1996 and the computer stayed. Later in 2000 I got the computer back. It had problems and that is when I rippped it apart for the first time. Replaced a floppy and the rest is history. If I never would have got that computer at home I know I would have never been as computer savvy as I am know. I would probably still be going upto the college and using their crappy computers and you for sure would not be graced with my wonderful slobby presence.

Actually I may have bene on a Dell or some crap. I probably now would have been arriving on the scene here instead of two years ago!

One other thing about that though is that I would probably be a much richer man

All the junk out there on the market today and with the prices driven down on different parts like IDE Harddrives the quality has suffered.

I dunno if this estimation is especially high. Until very recently, how often did you walk into the computer store and see mac hard/software? With the exception of a usb PCI card(that was originally purchased for a PC) and some memory everything I've ever bought for a mac has been ordered online.

Mac users are just more susceptible to marketing ,thats all .They are probably all using AOL too .As for building webpages ,most of the people with Macs probably bought them because they are into graphics and heard macs were best for this ( ) hence its because they are into Grapghics they build the Webpages ,not because they are more websavvy.
